Pierps, I have the same set up, but can't help with the b/y wire because I never had one. I bought my 40 - 25 years ago and it came to me without an engine. I have fundamentally rewired every thing, but if I can help with any thing else just let me know. I don't use the HEI. I bought and...
Pardion, yes, I am considering options for sound deadening and getting a list up for better weather stripping. I carry a step stool for my :princess:(and me?). When I built my rig 14 years ago noise abatement was not a big consideration (wasn't married then). Time and age have taken their toll...
Jim, I know, just my sense of humor. No doubt your right, but otoh I think trying to find a split case makes better sense to me. Parking brake is not an issue. Wonder who's sellin a split case and cuando $?
I don't know a lot of people personally here on Mud, but have wheeled with some of you. I've learned so much from "down to earth" people and I do appreciate the kind help and encouragement. GREAT BUNCH OF FOLKS! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I've decided to replace my transfer case...
Transmission is pretty quiet (NV4500). Transfer case is from the original drive train mated to the NV4500. No question the whine is from the straight cut gears in the transfer case.
I bought my rig in '96. Back then there wasn't Ih8mud just the LCML (Land Cruiser Mailing List). Paid $1500 for a '72 (no engine). I had to drag it out of the farmers field. Fast forward. I built it the way I wanted (read: no compromise 4 wheeler and good road manners), but I made one...
I used the HyperSpark (Holley) with my Sniper install. After many attempts trying to make the GM HEI work with (first MegaSquirt) and several distributors, the HyperSpark just worked. Seriously PLUG and PLAY rather than Plug & Pray.
Thanks Howard705! Then you know what I mean! I'll give your suggestions a shot. I called the local stealership about a master /slave combo and they were no help. With all the various Land Cruisers in the area you'd think they'd be more help. Thank God there is the Mud Forum! Gonner see if I...
Yes, the search function works. I've been on this forum for many years. I just can't find the answer I need.
Some background: rig is 72 with sbc stroker, NV4500 with Centerforce clutch, built around 2005.
I've been real happy with my 40, but, fast forward. In 2014 I had a stroke which left me...
I just put a sniper on my rig '72 FJ40. I also sprung for the HyperSpark dissy, CDI box and coil. I haven't started it yet! to cold to drive it anyway. I'm really interested to see if you have any driveablity issues with the manual xmissn. From the postings I've read some have had problems...
I built my '72 FJ40 specifically to be able to flat tow. I built my rear axle to have disk brakes and a locker. That said, I also built the rear axle to be a full floater with Aisin lock outs. When I tow with my class a motor home I just unlock all four wheels. Some may have seen my rig at...
I'm in the process of making my own fan shroud. One big problem with my rig '72' fj40 with an sbc stroker is moving the air under the hood. I've finally decided that the efforts I've made in the past do not allow for enough air movement over the top of the engine (this is documented on Ih8mud...
For sale section?
Didn't there used be a for sale section on the forum? I've got some parts that I'll never use and thought I might send them to a good home. Most free if you pay the shipping. The rest are reasonable. Drop a line chauncey46@gmail.com or PM me for phone number.
This is my '72 that I started on in 1996. I took it Moab for Cruise 2011 and broke it on the first trail. Some idiot (me?) didn't torque the carrier saddle bolts on the front diff. So a ring and pinion later Calvin's roll'n again. Hard top is hanging in the corner of the shop. I built the...
Here's an update. 180 degree thermostat and 18# radiator cap seems to do the trick. At idle it will go to 185 or 186 and the low speed fan comes on. It will cool to about 179. I've changed the program so only the high speed works now, but haven't had a chance to test yet.
Thanks for the...
