Sold
Selling the Cruiser.
It's a tough decision for me, but it's time.
The truck is as described in my sig line
a 1991 fj80 that went to Costa Rica and received a 1993 hd-T motor transplant.
Legally registered in California with the diesel motor.
it worked great for me for several years...
Hey all
Driving back from the amazing Toyota Museum in Salt Lake this October (after an awesome Moab trip, and a visit to two other Mudders in UT), it seems that I pushed the hd-t80 a little too far. A few hours of hwy 80 at 85mph with a wicked headwind (the roadside signs were just about...
hey all
I've got a conferr roof rack, pretty close to full-length on a 60 or 80.
here is it on a 60
here it is on an 80:
it has expanded metal on the bottom (steel)
and plates welded on one side that can be used to mount a hilift
and nuts on the front where you can mount a...
hey all
I've got 4 33's for sale $400 obo
mounted to 15" toyota alloy wheels from a 91 Land Cruiser
they will not fit on a 60-series, fyi
I'm asking 400 obo for the set, in Palo Alto (Bay Area)
they are worn, but have around 25% life left, maybe more.
noisy, that's why I changed out...
My injector pump seems to be leaking a little
it is diesel coming out
I think it is coming out of either the max fuel setting screw, but it might be coming out of the No. 2 Overflow Screw... the one with the little rubber cap and ponytail hanging down towards the max fuel screw.
anyhow, I...
odd new problem...
the max fuel screw on my IP has started leaking.
it isn't a heavy leak, at idle it does very little
but if I rev it, the max fuel screw gets wet, then slowly seeps diesel down onto the body of the pump
Any thoughts?
is there an oring or some other sort of seal in there...
hey all
I need a micrometer to measure 6 valve shims
probably take about 10 minutes, maybe 15, tops.
Anybody have one handy that I can borrow for a few minutes? I'll pull the shims and bring them... the micrometer will never leave your workshop.
I just don't want to spend $100 on a tool...
I'm frustrated
I know this has been covered, but I wanted to start a new thread on adjusting the drums/parking brake on early an early 80.
I pulled off the drums, they are clean and round and enough meat left (293mm, they say 297 is max)
the shoes look fine and have about 1/4" of thickness...
Let's post up Hd-T serial numbers (hz too, if you like)
I have what I was told is an hd-t from a 1993 vehicle.
Serial Number is 0071790
It does have the oil level sensor, which I believe suggests post-1992.
The serial number on my hd-t is at the upper corner of the block, below the head...
Hi all
my mechanic is an hour away. I don't want to leave the truck overnight...
how cold is "cold" for adjusting the valves?
Keep in mind it is near 100*F here, so the motor isn't getting cold no matter how long I leave it.. I'm just wondering if sitting for 5 hours is enough.
Thoughts?
Hi all
I recently discovered a snafu in my vehicle paperwork, the engine is reported as a 4.2l turbo (gasser).
This is an odd situation since the former motor was a 3F, certainly not 4.2 liters nor turbo
in any event, I need the engine number for the new paperwork- where is it on the...
Now that I have a working oil pressure gauge, I'm curious about "normal" pressure.
The FSM says:
At idle: .3kg/cm2 (4.3 psi, 29 kPa) or more
At 3,000 rpm: 2.5kg/cm2 (36 psi, 245 kPa) or more
w/ 15w-40 dino oil in there, I get around 20-30 psi at startup at idle, that drops to 15psi or so...
Anyone know the proper way to re-install the manifold studs?
All but one of mine pulled out. I've cleaned them up- run them through a die and tapped the nuts so all is clean and smooth now.
I'd assume they don't get torqued too tight. The FSM shows stud torque setting for M10x1.25 as either...
my exhaust manifold has a bit of a leak where the two halves join
the fsm shows "manifold rings"
is this something that can be fixed? or do I need new manifold rings? 'cuz I don't know if can get those and don't want to be stuck with the manifold apart.
put differently: how the heck do I...
I think I know the answer already :bang:
can I pull the turbo off without taking off the exhaust manifold?
I don't see a reasonable way to get to the nuts that are closest to the motor.
if you've done it, please tell me how as I don't want to get a new exhaust gasket, I'd like to just get...
wow
it isn't so easy to get this thing off!
"loosen nuts from injection pump" seems so innocuous in the fsm, and so not that easy in real life
and the last nut on the manifold? the one that is protected by the firewall, the manifold, the glow buss and the starter wire? that's a doosy.
hey all
while driving the other day I noticed that my hd-t is not putting out as much boost as normal.
If I gun it to pass, for example, the boost goes up to 7psi, then falls to 5 or 6. "Normal" would be more like 12 in the same situation.
If I accelerate slowly up a hill, boost climbs to 6...
Hey all,
I'm cross-posting this to the electronics forum as I'm not sure where to put it, but hoping a mudder can help with my HVAC question:
we've got 4 mini-split AC units in a 3br house (1 for the common area). I plan to be renting the house out to short-term clients in the near future, and...

Sandcruiser is rolling back to the Bay Area.
I'll need to do something to fill my days (and my pockets)
my resume is at http://www.stevebroyles.com/SJBresume.pdf
I'm open to anything interesting but would prefer work in the renewable energy industry or with biofuels.
I'm a good guy...
