Good year for a 40. I use to be into VW's back in the day and used the "idiot's Guise" in the beginning also, it was very straight forward. I'm not sure if there is one for 40's, but the factory shop manuals are a must have. These rigs are pretty basic and simple to work on. Enjoy.
post some pictures and your location. I'm sure someone here on MUD would be happy to take a look at the truck and help you out, there's a lot of good people that view this site.
Too much torque...so maybe I shouldn't have gone with the Martins Parts Orion pulley? I know pumps are cheap and easy to replace, just trying to figure out why in hopes to avoid the problem again if it's something with my set up. hopefully it was just a faulty pump.
Anyone know what would cause a "new" re-manufactured Saginaw pump to break it's shaft? I did a mini truck PS conversion. and on the second trip out lost power steering. Just Wondering WTH!? It's an early '70's GM truck pump with the smaller machine pulley that I read about hear on MUD (the name...
Make sure everything is disconnected...motor mounts, bell housing mounts, clutch slave, etc. You may have to do a bit of side to side wiggling as sometimes the input shaft can be stuck pretty good in the pilot bearing, HTH. Good luck.
I just finished my mini truck p/s conversion on my '69 and everything went great! One issue though is the box is tight and won't come back to center after making a turn. Is there an adjustment I can make? Steering was fine before the conversion. Thanks.
I'd like to go disc at all 4 corners with no booster just because if/when I'm in a steep hill climb situation and stall out I don't have to rely on vacuum to get me stopped. I'm not totally sure if I'm thinking correctly, but I know that on my boosted vehicles it takes a lot of pressure to stop...
I need to do the same thing. I was thinking about clamping the rail to the roll bar and using the jack as a come along (or my winch with some creative cable routing) to pull it straight.
