I am looking for a recommendation on mechanic in the Tampa area (Seminal Heights is where the truck is located). The truck (1990 FJ60) is being used by my son and unfortunately his mechanical trouble shooting is limited and I am in Minnesota. It is a charging issue and likely an alternator but...
After 3 years of Cruiser ownership I finally had a chance to do a long run with my 62 – just over 4,500 miles RT, Minneapolis to Key West – with an additional weeks’ worth of driving around Port Charlotte FL. So a few facts to start out – my 1990 62 has 168k (now) and is my daily driver. All...
I have the exact same issue – all 3 lights are on. It happened the other day as I was heading to work at Hwy speed and hit a normal size bump in the road. As soon as I did the lights came on. What C/B are you referring to? I have 2 in the fuse box and one under the box? Thanks in advance! David
My 62 developed a ignition switch issue yesterday – will not turn (turned great for 2 years, then just like that no turn). I can move the key position some and get it to turn – and once it is past the lock position it moves freely. But this is way more hassle and time required to not just fix...
Interesting, my 62 cargo light will do the same thing – I have not looked into it either other than I just leave it off for right now. No mod's to my truck or body work so it is all stock.
So it turned out to be a broken wire were the previous owner had spliced in for the trailer lights. When I first looked at the bundle it looked ok – wrapped up pretty tight but as I opened it up the crud started to fall out. The splice had corroded enough to separate inside the bundle. I ended...
I do not have the passenger rear taillight or marker light and neither license plate lights – all the others working. Bulbs have been replaced but no light. The brake light works on both sides along with the turn signal.
I do not have a voltmeter but can get one to use. I did a MUD search...
In the end the starter needed to be replaced – I went with a rebuilt (because that was the only one available in Mpls area) but kept the original to rebuild sometime. The truck has 136k miles now so a lot of miles left and having a rebuilt starter on my shelf is like money in the bank. I did...
I did get it to start (nothing new just turned the key 6 or 7 times) and ran it to temperature. I have now started it 20 or so times without fail (and at lack of a better description it is starting stronger). Maybe it just needed to start once to move the brushes or engage the starter completely...
Battery test at NAPA gave me the 12.6 volts but the CCA's were at just over 400 on a battery rated at 585 – Mr. NAPA said it is bad and should be replaced. So I did but the results were the same – strong click and no turn over. I did try it several times and eventually got it to engage and turn...
I have no test equipment at home for the battery but I can take it to get tested, but if I put the charger on it with a boost I still get the same result – wouldn't that get it to turn even if the battery had a bad cell? FYI - water level is good in each cell.
My 62 developed a starting issue a few days ago and this morning will not start at all. I will give an overview of what I have checked and symptoms so far.
When I turn the key it will give me a single click and then nothing or sometimes engage but only for a moment (¼ turn at best) and then...

Back on page 1 of this thread you have a 2nd back seat configuration “super low-tech new version” is how you described it. On this did you just unbolt the seat back, turn it around and lay it down on the seat cushion? Is it connected in anyway or just laying on top?

Hydration packs are very difficult to keep clean if you are just using water and even harder is you use some type of electrolyte replacement. I would just stick with the Nalgene bottles.
