Recently rolled over 79k on the truck and almost on the dime had the truck fail me. I was parked at a red light waiting to turn left when I felt the idle stumble. Then I saw the RPMs drop and the truck went into limp mode. When the light turned green I was able to nurse it into a parking lot...
I don’t have the measurements as it was quite a while ago that I made this. I used a Simpson Strong-Tie angle bracket, bent it to the size of a single din, then cut out the dimensions for the face of the TM-V71A. Drilled and taped the bracket to use the factory mounts. Originally I had the mic...
Where exactly is the temperature sensor? Below the thermostat is a little vague. Have you tried taking a reading post thermostat before it goes into the upper intake?
When mixing components it’s time to bust out the tape measure. Your shocks extended length is upper perch to lower perch distance with the coil unloaded (support vehicle by frame and lower axle without shock connected). Just make sure the coil doesn’t unseat and it still has “slight pressure”...
In preparation for an upcoming trip I decided to move the fridge to the KZJ78. Since the truck came with the dual (parallel) battery setup I added a Blue Sea 7610 isolator in between the batteries to save myself any future headaches.
Trying to find a spot in the rear to put a 12v source was...
The Tacoma. Not a lot has changed with it, new tires and some 17” 4Runner wheels. Just rolled over 70,000 miles on it. That’s 40,000 with the tune. Truck runs great.
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve updated this thread, so much has changed in my life I don’t know where to begin.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend of 2021 the wife and I decided that I should accept a position in Quantico, VA that had been offered to me. That meant I needed to get to work...
Check out Cruiser Outfitters, Exit Offroad, or Ironman 4x4 America for suspension. For OEM parts Amayama.com or Partsouq.com are excellent to deal with.
You can you Toyodiy.com for part number lookup too.
For headlights I’ve been running these for a few months now and don’t have anything bad to say about them. They did require a H4 adapter harness.

My bad, I didn’t replace the hard lines with soft hoses. Just replaced all the old original ones. To get retrofit the stock setup you could make some elbows to go into the calipers and source some longer soft lines. It really is a crappy design with the joint attached to the dust cover.
Rebuilding the front axle on the 78. Those little axle nut retaining screws on the power locking ring were a bear. Broke almost every T20 bit I had.
And what design engineer decided on hard brake lines going to the calipers, good thing I was already replacing all the soft lines anyways.
