1984 Toyota LandCruiser FJ60
I have owned this FJ60 since 2009, bought in the Austin area. I believe it was a California truck before that. Clean Texas title in my name in hand.
212,000 miles, 2F, 4 speed. Engine was rebuilt including new crank, 10 years ago by Butch Baker (local 2F...
I know shackle reversals tend to be a controversial topic around here, but I’ve installed one on my 84. When I installed the Manafre kit, I did -not - flip my front springs end for end—had no idea that was a thing? To be honest the install instructions were a little… sparse.
Recently I had...
Let me preface this by saying I’m an electrical imbecile—I mean I get the concept, but things like wiring diagrams look like Norse runes to me.
On my 1984 FJ60, I swapped out my headlights with the City Racer LED kit. I was very chuffed when everything worked great!
… for about 30 seconds...

What is this part called? And better yet, does someone have a part number?
This is a picture of Trapper50cal's engine bay, and he thinks it's called a decel cutoff valve, but the dealer doesn't have anything by that name.
Anyone have a good carb insulator plate lying around? The one I sent to JimC is buggered, and then slathered with RTV. He's recommending replacing it. Can get it new from the dealer, but it's 3 weeks out if I do that.
Any leads appreciated.
I'm ready to order gearsets and install kits for my diffs. I've got a quote from Randy's Ring & Pinion, but I'd really like to support a Mud Vendor. So...who have you guys used for gears?
Only wrinkle on my 60 is the driver's side front fender. I'd love to have a Toyota-white replacement to tide me over until I have the 60 painted. Located in DFW, TX.
Whatcha got?
I see a lot of people swapping in GM V8's, even 4BT's, but haven't seen many threads on swapping in the 4.7L. Why is that? I tried doing a couple searches but couldn't get the search engine to resolve "4.7"
I get that chevy power is cheap, readily available, and has good aftermarket...
Maybe this is a tired topic, but this might be a new twist. Originally when I started mapping out my build, I was planning on running 315/75/16s on 80 series wheels under an SOA. So I found a set of 80 series wheels here on Mud and had them shipped in. My plan was to regear to 4.56s.
Now I'm...
...thanks to the jerk who turned in front of me this afternoon.
Was traveling northbound on Matlock this afternoon about 5, when at Bardin some knob turned left in front of me. I didn't have anywhere to go and hit him going about 45. The first impact took out my driver front wheel, and then...
Introducing my 84 FJ-60. As moody as she is, she's definitely female. And she's also definitely named Herman, so there we have it: A Girl Named Herman.
Anyway, just got off the phone with Proffitt's Cruisers. Ordered up an SOA kit, high-steer kit, u-bolts, spring plates, and extended...
