OK, almost a year of banging it around in the back of the LC.
Durable? - nothing broken yet
Good cook stove? - boils water like a champ. If you like to make dinner with boiled water, this is your stove
Utility? - When the light is green, it lights up my Amazon.com 10 LED light wand like a champ...
Kevin;
Sounds good. Meet you at Eddie World (Chevron Station) around 10am where we can gas up and also top off on surf snacks for the road. I think we pass a fee station on the way, should not be a problem.
My call sign is KF7 HHV, we'll be monitoring the freqs. sent out by Randy (I...
Sure. The more the merrier. We'll be leaving Pahrump Friday morning around 09:00, PM me a way to get in touch. Either going in or coming back out, company would be fine.

Randy -
Sounds good, and thanks for organizing this mess. Both Joe and I recently sold our FJ40's, so we'll be car-pooling in my 100 series. I hope the diamond lane on Lippencott has not washed away.
When you email the freqs., please include some call signs as well. Mine is KF7...
Randy;
This link gives a good overview of the coverage. Of course, someone has to be listening on the other end.

I'll monitor all 3 freqs., Mazourka and simplex, on my way in and once in the valley. Joe and I will be coming in Friday late morning from...
Got an invite from a bearded stranger today, it sounds like a good trip. If I may be so bold as to suggest, I've used Mazourka Peak, 146.760-, PL of 100 around and in Saline. Works from the Nevada side, anyway. 146.52 and 446.00 work for simplex once you're in the valley. If Doug shows up...
Let me bash mine around for a couple of months, I'll report back. Like I said, initial results look pretty good. Have already determined that it is NOT a replacement for the dual fuel 2 burner Coleman, now lets see how it goes long term.

Have been sorting out my stove and kettle for a week or so now, and have the following observations:
1. Boils 2 liters of water in less than 8 minutes (after flame is fully engaged)
2. No need to carry fuel bottles
3. LED light or cell phone charged, neat feature.
Glad I bought the thing...
More MPG? Are you kidding me?
Interesting discussion, here's my $0.02 worth - I stopped checking the mileage on my 1999 after the first few tanks. 12 - 14 mpg. I just fill it up when the gauge hits ever-full. The fuel light comes on consistently at about 300-310 miles, and I plan my trips...
The stripe was dealer added, never saw another one like it. As for the bezel, I don't believe the BP even existed when I was driving that particular beast almost 30 years ago. That's the way I got it, that's the way I sold it.
With a Blue Racing Stripe!!!!
Never really washed or polished it, so I'm gonna go with off-white or egg shell. Did not look white when there was snow on the ground......
THANKS! Update
Thought I would post an update -
Since the purchase I've gone through the vehicle a bit, changed all the gear box fluids, flushed and filled the cooling system, lubed everything and added a set of 285X75R16 E load range BFG AT's. I've taken it off road in the local mountains...
I've spent the last 4-6 months researching this site for technical articles, pros and cons and just general information - I must say, thanks for tons of relevant info, especially on the timing belt. It helped me make a decision when I pulled the trigger on a 100 Series of my own. A one-owner...
Chris -
I'm glad it worked out for you. Mark's Off Road Enterprises added a seventh step, worth doing as well. By the way, I checked out your 62 FJ40 build thread - keep up the good work. Hope it hits the road soon.
Sent you a PM.
Best regards;

I tend to agree with Mssr. Wales and Vasquez - Put on some good tires, bring a buddy, and just see what it will do. Mine is bone stock with BF Goodrich 31.00X10.50XR15 LT rated on stock rims. W/ open differentials, if you begin to loose traction, back off the gas and rely on...
Free-up your sticky choke and hand throttle cables. It took about 6 hours to turn some frozen cables to like new this last weekend. Easier than pulling the dash apart, me thinks.
Disconnect the cables from the carb.
Take a 10-12 inch long piece of 3/16 ID vacuum hose
Push it...
