I'm surprised the post I started many moons ago is still going strong - good effort all!
Here is a more recent pic of our machine... See our other thread on building a new internal cage...
Update - went to our friends at Brown Davis and they bent up the main hoop and lateral bars on their CNC bender - gee that makes life easier! So that and a heap of spare 44.5 X 2.6mm tube is sitting on our workshop floor ready for some Tig action. Next is to plasma out the 3mm mounting plates...
Ok lads - we are about to tig in a new cage to our 75 and would like to see what others have done... We'd appreciate you posting up pics and/or ideas and we'll post our buildup pics when we are done....
Cheers
Hey guys you can merge it into this thread if you like - didn't see it first time...
Nuts were supplied with the spacers
Yes
Do you think this enough thread enagement or should I go to longer studs or have more of the spacer machined out?
Cheers
I noticed when fitting them that the supplied nuts only engage the existing wheel stud thread by approximately half of the thickness of the wheel nuts 0.509” to be exact [the nut length is 0.872”]. Is this sufficient for hard off road use?
Cheers
Thanks Ryan,
That’s a shame about the original confusion – how far from the top of the frame are your upper mounting points? Don’t you think your could go 16” having the hoops just under bonnet height? Or do you want to have more up travel? Is there an optimum both down/up travel distance...
I have broken two 4.88 ring and pinions [driving forward]. True they are weaker in reverse. I am now arranging for a custom housing with a Nissan GQ/GU front centre [high pinion] grafted in leaving the FJ80 axles CV, hubs etc.
It was done going up a short, steep rutted hill.
A sector shaft is the shaft that comes out of the steering box – it is what the pitman arm attaches to.
Hey guys – twisted a sector shaft a few weekends ago on my HZJ75. I have searched already and it appears to be nothing about what people have done to prevent this from reoccurring. Any ideas [other than slowing down and putting smaller boots on] are appreciated – hydro assist maybe?

I have created a new air box as I don’t have much room under the bonnet anymore so I was wondering where the best place to plumb the tappet cover breather would be. I don’t want o put it into the air box again as last time it filled up with oil when it rolled. Has anyone plumbed it into the...
Hey guys any ideas, got the birfs sorted now I’m worried about bustin’ the centre. 4.88s with an ARB, short of swapping in a D60 what else can I do?
