    Question: FJ60 33x10.50/15 or 32x11.50/15?

Personally I would not use a 33x9.50 on a '60'. I used this tire on an old CJ5 and even with this light weight it was a little squirrely on the highway. This is a narrow tire with a tall sidewall and a radial to boot and it flexes a lot. Sidehills off road are also not as stable as I would like...

    so I've been thinkin...

Dan is right. This '80 which I bought 2 years ago is the first coil spring rig I've had. It it so superior to the leaf systems. Mechanically may be simpler with less control arms etc, but they don't perform with the flex and stability of coils. Stick with the coils.

    My cargo box

Hayes, this is excellent work. You're too humble regarding your carpentry skills. I've been in the drawing stages for a few weeks thinking about config and dimensions - pros - cons. You've given me some great ideas. Thanks a bunch! Ernie

    Ham radio licensees listen up!

Ron, I'm in Roseville CA ( just outside Sacramento). KF6ICR - Tech license. I operate 2M and 440. Used to have a 220 rig that I used on a statewide network called CONDOR - worked great. Now Ionly use a dual band Yaseu for trail rides. Ernie

    Gears -- 4.56 or 4.88?

I was having the same debate about a year ago when getting ready to regear. I chose 4.88's and I am VERY HAPPY with these. It's a big heavy rig and these give me half a run up a mountain grade (as long as I draft behind a greyhound). 4.56's would not be enough gear for mountain roads. And the...

Speaker replacement in my 93 results

Henry - thanks for the tip. I've been wanting to upgrade my speakers as well. I'm not too picky but anything would sound better than OEM. So I'll give this a try. Happy New Year, Ernie

    Basic Front Hub Question

The best method I've found is to use a large brass punch and a big hammer. Place the punch on the end of the stud with the nut removed and give it a couple good swings. It seems harsh but it works and the brass keeps the stud from being damaged. You can find the brass punches at sears or other...

    ARB Air Locker pumps oil

I promised to provide a closing note on this problem when a solution was found. Well I've had the truck on the road for about a week and.... It works! The fix... The ARB locker was ultimately shipped to ARB USA in Seattle. They disassembled the unit and found "the internal seal to be...

    The perfect 80

CDan - it's an impressive inventory - a list we all aspire to... If you're not careful we'll all be heading to New Mexico for a closer look - is there any room to camp on your front lawn?

    ARB Air Locker pumps oil

We took the 3rd member out this morning at the shop. The seals and seal housing "look" okay - ie. no apparent debris or wear. I have to say they don't appear damaged. We called ARB US and they asked for the whole unit to be returned for inspection. Shipped it this morning via ground - air...

    ARB Air Locker pumps oil

Christo, The symptoms you describe are EXACTLY as I have on the rear. The shop I'm using also recommended adding a second breather line. The owner was calling other shops in the area looking for advice and this was one of the ideas he came across. Apparently some models of the front axle...

    ARB Air Locker pumps oil

Robbie, Thanks for the information. I neglected to say but this is a new locker. I don't know what style o-rings it has. I assume it's the latest. Either way, what you describe could be the problem. The shop could have gotten some dirt or metal into the seal housing when it was installed...

    ARB Air Locker pumps oil

Well thanks for the inputs. I've tried all the basics. I think the o-rings are the likey culprit as suggested. Although if this was the case - I thought it would leak air and the pump would come on periodically. But it holds air fine and engages with no trouble. So I'm not sure, but I think...

    ARB Air Locker pumps oil

I'd like any advice on this the board can provide. I had a shop install 4.88 gears and ARB air lockers front and rear for my '97 FZJ80. I took the 3rd members to them for the work and I did the remainder of the work. Everything works well with one exception... I first noticed it after I...
