I have recently put a 4 speed transmission inplace of a 3 speed on a 71 fj40. I rebuilt my 3 speed transfer case at this time. Went for a 30 mile ride yesterday, everything seemed fine, maybe a little more whine than before. No grinding etc, but the trans and tcase were extremely hot when I...
Is the short driveline/pillow block for a pto winch on a fj40 absolutly mandatory? Has anyone fabbed up shafts to make it work without this part. I have done a lot of searching but cant seem to find a straight answer.
Thanks
Well, I have to try...Anyone have the short pto shaft with the pillow block on it they can part with? I could also use the linkage from the gearbox to inside the cab.
Thanks

I have just finished rebuilding the 3 sp transfer case on my 71 fj40. I have seen people use fish scales to set the main shaft bearing preload, but I want to use an inch pound torque wrench. I read were Poser need somewhere around 15 inch pounds when installing an orion case, is it the same...
OK...so here is my saga. I have a rebuilt F engine (past warranty date now ) that I blew a front oil galley plug out on (and yes it was a metric plug). Fixed that, seems as if it just wasn't dimpled...Now 300 miles later I have a rear main leak with radial streaks on the flywheel and...
I currently have my transfer case pulled with the parking brake drum and the speedometer housing off. If you grab the front or rear output shafts at this stage should you be able to move them any up/down or in/out? I have maybe 1/16" up/down and in/out play, is that too much? When I checked...
I have a rebuilt F engine that I have installed in my 71 fj40 (this is not the F.5, oil filter is on driver side). I primed the oil pump with a drill, etc. I removed the valve cover and poured oil over the rockers before initial start up. I started the engine with the valve cover off, it has...
I have an F engine with a weber carburetor. The hole in the air cleaner base is currently pluged and the valve cover vent hose is open. What are you using for a fitting to go into the base of the air cleaner to mate up with the hose from the valve cover?
Thanks
I am needing to remove the front output flange on my 71 fj40 transfer case. Looks to be pretty close tolerances between the nut and the wall of the flange? What size nut is it, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I have a 71 fj40 with a three speed...want to swap to a four speed. I have a 4 speed bell housing, am going to use my 3 finger clutch/flywheel, and want to use my transfer case. I am looking for all other parts necessary including the 4 speed transmission. pm me or email me at...
I am fixing to put some aftermarket guages on my cruiser and all the water temp guages I find come with NPT adapters. It is metric, right? What have you done for gauges?
Thanks
I have 4 35x12.50x15 ridge runner tires that I would like to trade down to smaller and narrower tires. This would be trading for rims and tires. My tires have good tread left, can measure and post pictures if there is any interest, pick up only. Thanks.
Everyone saw my hardtop before, look at it now with the new fiberglass top and rain gutter! :flipoff2: Lots of :censor: and  but it is done. I also figured out a trick when putting the window keys back in...use a 8mm box end wrench with a screw driver in the open end as a T-handle. Hard to...
