1976 Toyota FJ40 w/ 1979 Buick 231 V6 as motor. I bought it as a restoration project, but am moving to Phoenix. VERY good body. Needs fuses (glass tube kind). I would recommend getting a rewire. The wiring works, but is old. A Painless rewire kit can be purchased at COOLCRUISERS.COM - Toyota...
Thanks to all for the info so far. I'm not doing the installation. That will be done in a shop. As for the extra bits, or what I'll need, it will be a straight pull with everything out of one vehicle and into the FJ40. Are the 3F/3Fand the original tranny in a FJ40 compatible?
K, originally I planned to pick up a 83 or 86 2F but it appears I also may have a shot at a 3F for my 76. I realize there's a performance advantage to the 3F, but would purchasing that hurt or help the resale value of the FJ40? Also, pretty sure he'll want more money for the 3F. How much more...
Hey all, going to pick up either an 83 or 86 2F (my choice: i.e., whichever runs better). Any special considerations for putting it into my '76 FJ40? Doing a conversion from a Buick V6. Still has original clutch and tranny.
I'm looking for a 2F motor to put in my '76 FJ40. Need anything and everything that comes with it as I'll be pulling the Buick V6 that is in it now. Located in Colorado Springs, CO. Will travel anywhere in CO, UT, WY or NM. Hell, I would probably even go to KS (but only if I absolutely have to).
This will be more than a weekend cruiser so gas mileage is somewhat of a concern. I'd rather be putting the money I would be spending on gas with a V8 into improvements on this FJ or my '72 or fly fishing or hunting so if I don't revert to stock I'd prefer a newer Chevy V6.
I've considered the V6. After some more research will probably be the way I go if I don't stay with stock. Now depends really on what I can get a 2F for.
Glad to get the consensus on MAF. Thanks! I guess I'll probably go looking for a 2F. Have pretty much decided I'm going to go stock on it unless I can find a good Chevy motor (V6 or low V8 -- don't want to get killed on gas mileage) for cheap.
I've been fighting which way to go on my '76 regarding V8 or stock (currently has a Buick V-6 in it from previous owner). After much self-haggling I believe MAF is the way I will go.
