    Ridies seat covers

OP, your installation looks great! And I'm shamelessly plugging my grey front row full grain Nappa, new in box, listed in classifieds at a steep discount.

SOLD  Reno NV - 100 Series - New front row leather from Ridies

These have been sitting New In Box in my garage for over a year. I've decided not to install them. Selling at a discount to clear some space in my pitifully small garage. 23% off retail price, and will split shipping in continental USA. Consider I also already paid the tax. Your price is...

    Total cost of ownership data

Agreed! Compared to $40,000 or more spent on a new(er) vehicle that serves all the same functions - I can keep the LC on the road for 20+ more years - and it gets cooler every year. At my current ~10k miles per year, I'd be hitting that $40k with 525k miles on the odometer 🤠

    Total cost of ownership data

Hi Mud, Bottom line up front - the cruiser has cost me about $1,650 to maintain/repair per year on average. The total cost of ownership has been about $50,000 over 12 years. I've been driving my cruiser as my commuter, road tripper (sometimes towing small camp trailer) and off roader since...

I saw this too last weekend on PS at 171k miles.

    Brake Upgrade

that is essentially the question i was asking, or maybe the assumption i was questioning... the rear pads are about half the surface area of the fronts. but considering your statement, maybe only 1 or 2 mils of wear difference on new pads means that the overall system is fairly well...

    Brake Upgrade

quick update, the rear pads were down to the bottom of the wear groove. there was about 2 mm left on the front. does that sound like a problem (proportioning valve? other?) to anyone? So maybe 42000 miles is too many for the porterfields. I will probably make this a 30k PM item. I do love...

    Brake Upgrade

I flagrantly copied spressos setup 2.5 years/42000 miles ago. I also used stoptech (plus custom) braided steel lines at the time. I thought the setup was a decent improvement, and i figure every little bit helps to stop these pigs. they say low dust and noise, and I agree. i am replacing the...

    Blown head gasket

As the gentleman (ahem) who started that thread, I whole heartedly agree, get a second opinion or make plenty of your own observations. I was absolutely convinced that I had blown a HG based on my initial observations. Luckily I got the same advise (and the sticker shock was not prompting me...

    Dubious honor: HG failure

OK I am ready to report the "good news" now, after another week of monitoring, there has been no coolant loss at all and everything has remained dry. i would almost prefer that i had fixed something to get this result, now i will constantly be wondering how tight my system is...

    Dubious honor: HG failure

update: i steamed cleaned all of the above and more, and monitored for two days. i am very happy to say that he HG does not appear to be the source (still no franklin for you jason), it has remained clean and dry. the running gear below that area was pretty wet on the underside. i found the...

    Dubious honor: HG failure

the wet gasket tab is just to the left of middle in that pic, the fluid is red. and pink crusties below it to the left. not willing to take your bet jason, after recovering from sticker shock, i am going to take a measured approach. i steamed everything today and am going to monitor the...

    Dubious honor: HG failure

I've read of a few more cases here on MUD... I might be the third or fourth... Unfortunately I am 99% certain, I will post a pic later tonight, the gasket "tab" that sticks out between the head and block is visibly wet with red liquid. nothing above it is wet, but areas below it are wet and...

    Dubious honor: HG failure

I had to fill the coolant reservoir last week, and when I checked last weekend I had to fill it again - then I noticed a wet red spot on the ground (ughh). Followed it up to the rear left bank head gasket. Oil looks fine so far, and no smoke on start up. Since my truck has 165k miles, in...

    Replacing Power Steering Fluid FAQ

PS maintenance is pretty easy now after a complete drain and fill... every 10 k miles, i lift the reservoir out of its seat, holding a milk carton (top cut off) below the res, I unplug the lower line (feed line) and just drain it into the carton for disposal. after that, reconnect, fill less...

    cold weather starts

I can't remember if the factory battery is sealed or not... if its not sealed, then it might just need a little (or a lot) of water added... our subie battery was getting pretty weak, then i checked the water level and it was almost dry! i added quite a bit of water to it (deionized only) and...

StopTech SS Brake Lines - production issues

You can also have lines custom made at your local Parker Fittings or some Napa locations... same ballpark price as the name brands. If you do this, bring one of each line for them to examine, I made the mistake of not doing so, and I ended up making a few trips to get it right...

    My intro thread : '99 RRM LC100

excellent job on the baseline PM, only things i would add for a complete baseline are cleaning the MAF and throttle body (replace the air filter while you are in there), and lubing the drivelines. the rear slip yoke needs more frequent application, when you begin to notice a thunk. servicing...
