Thanks for the pic cjgoode, that helps out a lot! The reason I'm ditching the vacuum shift is because most of the lines were rotted out and some of the other parts were in pretty bad shape as well, not to mention I had most of the parts for the floor shift that I scavanged off of a t-case I have...
Alright gents, I'm hoping the floor shift faithfull can help me with this one. I'm in the process of converting my 73 FJ40s vacuum shift transfer case to a floor shift and have had pretty decent luck finding most of the parts I need from specter off road except for the shift lever bracket, which...
Thanks for the link. I checked it out and didn't find much info on the computer just the part number and stuff. If you could tell me a little bit more info about this ( price, ease of use ect. ) that wood be great. I kind of poked around lextreme on this topic but didn't get much out of it...
hey chwtoy, out of the three, I'm excluding the megasquirt of course, wich is the most user friendly. I'm pretty much a ECU rookie, I can handle wiring and stuff but I guess the tunning is whats worrying me. Also I don't think I have very much of a selection of techs to work on this kind of...
I'm not quite sure but I'm taking an educated guess on this one because the electricals are realy not my gig. I'll probably be calling in the aid of my stepbrother who used to be a Ford tech (uhh) when it comes time to deal with that. All though I will say that if I did need to use this signal...
I don't know. I haven't sorted that out yet . I'm guessing with and aftermarktet computer I could probably go with or without it and run the speedo off the stock transfer case cable
no actually I got off of Ebay, its out of a GS400. The only two things that suck about it is that it did not come with any of the accessories (alt, power steering pump ect.) and it is a front sump, so I might have to fabricate a rear sump or just find one from an LS400 I think.
cajunfj40, I just realized in all of my infinite stupidity that the Crown Ecu will most likly not work with the 2uz as it is pretty much a whole different motor so the only route for you would to go with the aftermarket ecu. Unless you could some how squeeze the auto tranny in there with a...
Hey guys I have been wanting to do a 1uz swap with my 73 Fj40 for about two years now and after poking around on this forum and lextreme.com I think I have taken in enough info to get off my ass and start this build. My plan of attack is also including a manual trans and the only way to make...
Alright, here is a question I don't think I have seen yet. As with most Fj40s that are around in my area the tubs are ussually rusted out in verying degrees. Mine is a lot worse than most and not even salvagable. Seeing as a replacment tub, be it fiberglass or aluminum, is around $2500, I was...
Hey guys. Got some disheartening news yeterday, the taco is dead:frown: The guy at the shop I go to said at first that I had a bad #4 injector witch I tought was odd but not suprising seeing as I give the thing a daily assfault flogging. Then just yesterday he installed the new injector and...
actually the 1uz is an aluminum block and only wieghs a c hair more than the 2.7 four banger. Not that I'm trying to steer you away from the 3.4, it deffenitly is a great motor. I just have some sick infatuation with the 1uz. Keep up the good work, looks like its going to be quite the capable...
Awsome, thanks for that hint. I never even thought about a marine aplication motor. Did the 1uz or 2uz come stock in any marine applications or is it just from people slapping em into their boats
Hey Don
I have been looking into doing this swap for over a year now and this is the concoction I have come up with so far. Ls 400 V8 with the stock bell housing and an adapter plate to a R150F from a V6 four runner, the marlin crawlers toy box to mate the tranny to my stock...
Titanium actually isn't that difficult to weld if your a deccent tig welder, it is very similar to a high grade stainless or iconel. You can also get different grades of titanium and some that are not so brittle. There are a few companies that have already made frames for race quads out of...
