Thanks, that's good to know about the driving characteristics.
Mostly though, I'm trying to figure out if there are any parts vendors located stateside. They never sold the Toyota diesels here. I met a guy once who transplanted the diesel engine that you commonly get in your Aussie Nissan...
Hey guys,
Been a while since I posted here. I stopped off at Duncan Imports in Virginia over the holiday weekend, and I was floored by some of the Toyota and Nissan firetrucks they had. Stupid-low mileage. I left thinking about an HJ60 that they had. But then I started wondering about parts...
This is a really cool little truck! I live 5 minutes down the road from Weaverville. Let me know if you ever need a second set of hands. I don't have any project cars at this time, and I'm happy to help out.
That's amazing that it came from Hawaii. I thought all cars commited to HI were there on a life sentence until they rusted to nothing. Which usually takes between 6-8 months.
FWIW, old cat converters can be cleaned for less than $20.
This is a fun an informative read...

You may have done this already, but have you posted a want ad on Craigslist yet? I've had good luck with that when I was looking for a Wagoneer. Get descriptive about the condition, mods, mileage, and budget that you're working with. And post it in all the cities within a reasonable drive of...
OK, so I emailed the seller. It's not by owner. It's a local dealer that tends to trade in sometimes funky styles of trucks.

That being said, I'm going to walk away...
It's funny becaue I was admiring an FJ60 just yesterday morning at Folly Beach. I thought "Wouldn't it be cool to convert one of those to diesel?" And bingo, there's one in Hendersonville for relatively cheamp money. Having just sold a piano of Craigslist, I'm not going to bug this guy. Lord...
Hey guys,
I didn't even know this subgroup was around until today. I was stuck in some godawful Labor Day traffic around Columbia and saw the Upstate Cruisers sticker on an FJ80 that was trailering an MR2. Whoever that was, thanks for the tips!
Alright, I guess you're the guys to talk to...
Cars for sale, cell service, you're regular operator!
Good luck with the sale. I know you'll find it a good home. Once my life slows down a bit, we should meet up and talk obscure old trucks. I have a feeling these hills are just full of them, just waiting to be bought.
Aw man... Wish I could take you up on that. I just moved to Asheville a few weeks ago, and I could really enjoy a rig like that. Only problem is I'm in negative income land until my house in Fla sells.
Good luck, and email me if it hasn't sold in a couple months (doubt that).
Hi everyone.
My friend's 1991 FJ80tends to take a while of cranking before it starts. It usually starts ont he second crank. We replaced the fuel relay (as was recomended here), but that didn't help. I was wondering if there is a check valve somewhere in the fuel line that may be at fault...
I agree with most of the statements made here. The LR (if we're talking about a used Discovery) is a great offroad vehicle, but it's a mechanical disaster waiting to happen. It's much better if you're a DIY guy, otherwise the dealerships will take you to the cleaner. Go to Discoweb.org and...
Sad thing is that I don't even wrench on an 80 that I own. The only 80 that I've worked on belongs to a friend of mine. I help him out because his 1991 is a very basic design (so I'm not afraid to screw anything up) and shops around here charge an arm and a leg for repairs.
The...
The radiator in my friend's 1991 (6 cyl) is leaking like crazy. He's going to check the junk yards to find a new one. What age/engine range should he be looking for?
Thanks,
Eric
