Thanks!
Thanks all!
Being an OEM fan, I suppose I've boxed myself into buying only Toyota parts. Please let me know how the aftermarket parts work out!
I've had and an FJ80 MC and booster sitting here waiting for this job.
89 FJ62 - where to get 92-94 4Runner caliper? PLEASE
Finally ready to do this 4Runner caliper conversion on my FJ62. After first ordering the WRONG (1996) calipers last year, I want to be sure to get the RIGHT ones this time, pref. fully loaded.
I was going to use the one Marlin advertises...
Auto Zone - no go either!!
The Saga continues. I ordered a used one from CruiserParts but it appears to have almost no life in it - when spinning the shaft by hand it get "stuck" - probably on the brushes??? It's more corroded than anything on my truck, so it ain't goin' on.
Ordered one...
Specter not good
Just a followup FWIW: The Specter rebuild mentioned above does not come w/ a voltage regulator, wich runs an additional $175! :flipoff2: That puts it at $5 less than the Mean Green high output. Looks like Auto Zone Gold it will be for now!
Thanks everyone...
Specter OEM rebuilt - $200
Looks like I can get a Specter OEM rebuilt for $200 ($300 - $100 core). Depending on shipping, I'll either go this route or the AoutoZone Gold.
Thanks all!
Very interesting! 140 amps, eh? What year is your cruzer? Is it a 60 or 62? There's a big difference in their alternators.
Assuming you have a 62, what would I ask AutoZone for - a Caprice alternator? What year? Did it just bolt up, pullys and all?
Thanks for your help!
R
Thanks Harry.
After installing the last OEM unit, I wished I'd gone w/ a high output. I'd love to go that route, but I need to go as inexpensive as possible - don't really have the choice right now.
You can pick up an SWR @ Radio Shack. Check eBay also.
Get the longest antenna you're willing to deal with. We use 4 footers on the roof, and with the rack and spring mount, we needed a good 12+ feet of clearance! Not a problem in the desert, and of course the spring bends if you hit a...
Howdy all,
It's tax time (read $$ outlay), I'm moving (read $$$ outlay) and my 1989 FJ62's friggin alternator died again. I replaced it 4 1/2 years ago w/ an expensive reman from Specter or TPI, maybe MAF...
Anyway, I just can not spend $380 on an alternator right now - have about $600...
Before cell phone were present on the Navajo reservation, we ran both CB's and ham radios in all our tour trucks, so I've installed them in several 60/62's. Always mounted the CB on driver side of center console, facing up, and ham right on forward face of same console.
All of these trucks...
The DBA's look great! And your deal sounds great also Mangler, but as I'm rebuilding the entire front axle, and moving into a house this month, my budget is shot.
Richard
Yeah, I may go this route - leaving the stock rotors. I did just have them turned 3000 miles ago...
You know how it goes - a leaky front axle seal turns into a whole axle rebuild because "I'm already in there". Same w/ the caliper conversion - "might as well replace the rotors".
Hey...
Been there... sorry man
Sorry you have to part with your baby! A few years ago I was forced to sell an '87 FJ60 that I put over $20K into - my first cruzer. I suddenly found myself in a bad place, and needed the $$ to pay taxes and keep myself out of bankruptcy...
I advertised on...
Hey all, I'm swapping 4Runner calipers on FJ62.
There are so many brands of rotors to choose from, what are your favorites for this conversion?
I've searched the threds here and have not found this info - all I know is that they must be 1996 - 2002 IFS 4Runner compatable.
Thanks!
Richard
The post on FJ60 valve job got me to thinking...
Those out there who've done a valve job on a 62: how much? Options? The 60's were so simple by comparison, I just don't know about the 62 with all of it's misc. goodies.
Also, anyone know of an excellent machine shop / race builder in AZ...
Wow, very nice!
Do you intend to do a write up on the specs?
That would help a lot of folks as I'm sure there are many of us who would LOVE to build that bumber onto our truck!
Hey David,
are you using any sort of proportioning valve w/ this set up?
I've heard that the springs on the drums will overpower the 2# pr in the FJ80 mc, causing problems.
Thanks!
