I think one of the best things I did to my 60 was the tinting light tint in the front and heavy in the back, and if I were to do it again I would have gone full limo tint on the passenger windows and back (as it is, we permanently blocked the back side windows with windshield shades cut to fit)...
I thought I was subscribed to this thread... corrected
The 60 has come a long way... awesome build.... btw super jealous of the cable lockers
I am not sure I follow your budget. Do you have 15 to 20 allotted for the vehicle or the whole trip? If budget is for vehicle alone it is very realistic and doable.
If you get a Landcruiser (80 or 70 series) I wouldn't do any vehicle mods other than a new suspension. Make sure maintenance is...
Holy shnikey! I hadn't kept up with the build and I just spent way too much time doing catch up... Awesome stuff here, truly enjoyed going through the thread. Hope to cross paths with this rig once it is on the road. Cheers to a great job Crushers, hope you get to complete it soon.
I disagree with you guys. I guess I myself am an obsessed overlander who has indeed read too many magazines and has lived out of an FJ60 for the last 4 years, but I agree with a lot of the stuff St. Pierre talks about. In fact we are considering similar mods for our 60... as far as the guy being...
We have been on the road in Latin America for a while now and in the end the best thing you can do is hope your common sense is working, not leave valuables in the open within the vehicle and be careful where you leave the car (and a dash of luck)... this can be time consuming and slightly...
Awesome Kevin! Glad you are selling yet another cool product. I thought about doing something similar to our 60 after seeing your thread (I did pretty much copy your rear set-up) and after some thought didn't go for it... it was more $$ for mods or our drive south :). I still pine for the...
Brakes are working but not 100%. Replacing the booster did a lot and it was definitely leaking... It is possible that it still may be the master, but absolutely no luck finding a new one or someone to rebuild it... Flying to the US in June, so will come back to South America with a box full of...
Thanks for the replies. I bled the brakes thoroughly and adjusted the rod and things seem to be working now... We are driving into the Andes and several passes over 12,000 feet so I hope it doesn't mess with me for the next few days at least!
We have been having some brake issues in Peru the last couple of weeks and since I know my severe mechanical knowledge limitations I figure I will write down everything that has happened in the hopes that one of you might have an idea what my next step should be... This is a condensed version of...
We live in our LandCruiser and we cook a lot on the road, so I did not skimp on cookware...
At first I got a pretty nice set from Snow Peak, but the truth is that their cookware is not meant for someone who wants good heavy homestyle pots and pans (in other words it's kinda flimsy) After about...
I have not seen any diesel 60's or '80's in Colombia or Ecuador, in fact when we pull into a dealership all the mechanics come out to check out the 12HT. Are diesel Toyotas more easily available further south in Bolivia? I know there are tons of 60's in Bolivia.
As a side note I will be...
I am running a 27 on the passenger side and a larger 31 on the driver side with no issues. My 27 is a marine starting Sears Platinum, the second battery was a marine 31 platinum from Sears it died a year ago while we where in Belize I replaced it with some random Belizean brand flooded marine...
Well, it is definitely a Pyrometer malfunction. There is nothing I can do at the moment, no $ for buying or having it shipped to South America... so I am just going to have to be light with my right foot.
I have been driving a lot of mountain ranges here in the Andes between 8 and 11 thousand...
The wiring seems sound, I think I may try to get a spare pyro sent to Colombia because once we hit Ecuador it will be almost impossible to get one until we get to Chile sometime later this year....
I have not played with the voltmeter as it has been raining, but I will give it a shot and...
