That mount to the Bar is cool, that could work for me. I'd want to keep it tight so as not to interfere with my passenger's space, but it would be a strong base to build my mounts on. What would that mount be called, for my search?
Very well thought out. Is that horizontal bar, above your LCD display, mounted to your dash or attached to the support tube in front of your cup holder? I like how you can add additional mounts for other devices.
Wits'End has some neat products, thanks for the name.
How have others mounted their mobile radios and GPS units?
I have a 90 HDJ81 and am looking for mounting ideas for the faceplate of my Kenwood 710GA and Garmin GPS. I've considered a mounting post I can bolt near my shifter in front of the console before my dash.
What ingenuity have you seen...

Excellent Post, enjoy data mining this some 3 years later. 👍
Did anyone get the answer to where this hose is supposed to...
Thank you for your comments. So the goal is to find one that fits in the factory location, and one that would survive the exposure being located under the front bumper. There is lots of water from road spray and muddy water from wet off roading. Not a nice environment for a winch compared to...
'90 HDJ81. Having some issues with my trusty factory winch. With the price od other winches today, has anyone found a good non-factory replacement winch, i.e. Warn, Ramsey, etc., that would fit in the same factory location?
If so, since I live in Vancouver BC, (Rainy) Im concerned any other...
'90 HDJ81 factory winch being temperamental and needing some TLC. when under load, I am unable to release the load on the line to reposition my pull. It will when under no load, but no joy with a reasonable amount of tension. no clicking just silence? Is this a relay or my gears binding...
Thanks for your posts. I've taken it to Extreme Bends Inc (EBI) to have the oil replaced. I hope this is sufficient, otherwise next step is to replace the unit. @cruiseroutfit I appreciate you stocking such items for us, I'll reach out to you if my issue persists.
Hello, I need one and looking for a North American part number to cross over the non NA # 16210-17040 or 16210-17010
Has anyone found a suitable part number for the HDJ81 Napa would find useful...
Hello, just to follow up on my post. Had my AC serviced by EBI and they replaced my O-Rings on the compressor, the Dryer and recharged my system. Cool air again and my co-pilot (the Mrs.) Is happy. It appears the 28 yo AC owed no favours and not a DIY fix for me. :D
Thanks for the reply. I have tried to look into the glass windows of my refrigerant and cannot seem to see anything significant. Can I tell visually or do I need special equipment?
I have a 1990 HDJ81 which had a good working AC.
What’s the problem?
AC does not blow cold air and the compressor does not turn on. When I engage the AC, all appears correct on the dash, fan comes on and lights on controls are on. But cold air never appears. I noticed the compressor doesn’t...
Circling back, I believe the issue is with my batteries, they have since proven themselves weak. I need to replace them soon if I wish to do any serious power draws from them. Can't expect the winch to perform if the batteries are flat. I'll test it again when I can pony up the coin for two...
Ha!! found it. :bounce:
After a thorough inspection of the wiring and switches under the dash and kick panel, I found the fault. It's a broken thicker green wire between the fusible link block and the + battery terminal. When I jumped that wire to 12v my brake lights, tail lights, clock...
Hmm thanks for the input, I'll go back out there in a bit and keep at it. The brake switch works, my multimeter beep continuity across the posts when I press the pedal, but I could jump the connector to see if that does anything. When it gets dark I'll see if my park lamps light up my gauges...
1990 HDJ81 Auto VX
OK I’m stumped. There is no power to the bulb sockets on my two brake lights when I press on the brake, or my park lamps when I turn on the park lights. Also, I cannot get my shifter out of park when I press the brake, have to use the red button.
Fuse is OK, replaced it...
How feasible would it be to wire both my 12V batteries in parallel to power my truck, specifically my factory winch. It seems a waste to not provide double the current to my winch but I don't wish to interfere with my 24 starting system. Has anyone done this?
