Hi Steve,
Please tell me a little more about the overdrive gear set. I emailed Georg, but no reply. What was the price and do you know how hard the install was, whether the t-case has to come out (easy on the 80), whether i works with a true HF1A, and whether it requires any grinding?
Thank you,
jan
The Yanmar 6LP series is actually the 1HDFT, not the 1HDT. That is important, as things like intake manifold, linkage, exhaust manifold...are very different (I did what you did and have that engine in my 80). So are the injector lines and pump settings-these are important, as the Yanmar...
Be careful. Both countries have high mountains with lots of snow, use tons of salt and vehicle maintenance is not high on people's agenda. Rust buckets are everywhere.
I used the one from Xxiindustries (Home Page). They claim it is equilibrated for the G-Turboes. It looked like a very well built product and has held up great so far.
Check your oil level and viscosity. If it is high and appears thin, your IP is leaking diesel from the front seal into the oil, thinning it out and raising the level so it gets pushed by the rings into the combustion chamber.
Changing journals and resizing bearings makes no sense and is not supported by the FSM either. By that logic you would have to change the rod every time you change the bolts.
The stretch in the bolts can be measured and if out of specs (indicated in the FSM), they have to be replaced.
Do you really want criticism, or just confirmation that it looks great and very 'expeditiony'?
You are taking way too much stuff. How much food can you eat in 4 days? If you want to bring your whole house, take a trailer.
You are having too much weight on the roof. Off camber will be a problem...
How do I remove the trim pieces at the front upper seat belt adjuster to get to the seat belt anchor please? I don't want to ruin the plastic...
It is an 96 with the adjustable belts...
Thank you!

As gerg said, there is a vac pump attached to your alt, as the diesel engine does not generate vacuum. The pump is lubricated by engine oil and the vac is required for your brake and clutch boosters.
Sorry, I did not want to come across that way.
I swapped a (new) 1HDFT into a 96 80 series in the US. The truck was clean with lockers and new leather on the seats. The engine was actually cheap for what it was. The transmission was rebuilt by us, so was the transfer. Obviously such a...
Your original statement was not that they 'pop up on craigslist from time to time' (which is more than vague), but that you can import a LHD turbo diesel 80 series easily for 13.5k. As I said, make a business out of it and make some real money, if that is so easy.
You are being very polite.
Dirty Truck, windshield cracked, dead batteries or other starting problem, no idea how the dual battery system works, no idea what sliders, no idea what converter, few pictures, a $40 fix for the seat not done, dents, scratches, 4.80? gears, odometer and mileage...
