The dealer just changed my transmission fluid at the 60k service. Not sure what all was involved.
Talked to a ZF transmission guru, he has a flushing machine, would never use it on his own transmissions. His method is to drain, turn the engine a bit with the starter while ignition is...
Surface rust, that is pretty much every vehicle in the rust belt. Good to hit it with a wire brush and some rust converter. I've resigned myself to living with a bit of surface rust on the undercarriage, but pretty simple task to hit stuff with rust converter as it shows up.
Cars in general...
This looks and feels like coolant. Could it be? From behind the rear tire?
2021, 67k. I don't yet know the systems on this truck like i did on previous land cruisers
I'm much more concerned about break ins than theft of the whole car. Lots of stories of lots of break ins at remote trailheads in the western U.S., including here on Mud. Shortage of replacement glass because of so many cars getting broken into, thieves just don't hesitate even to just look...
I'll still try to order a new set of plates. One of mine is shot, the other probably would work out with a bracket keeping it from flexing. Probably will take a while to come from Aus, but I can go without.
Yes!!! That would fix this problem. I still have everything I didn't use from the install, I think just camera brackets.
These! I missed a step in the install, been fighting with this for over a year. I still haven't lost the bag of extra parts despite moving. Had to dig through my...
Once again, the new filler/skid plates breaking apart at the mounting ears. No loose fasteners, all tight, so no added vibration from loose fasteners. As an old mech engineer, I can only surmise there is too much unsupported/cantilevered weight, allowing these plates to flex a lot during...
I dream of having a full scale image of the bottom of my truck fastened to my bedroom ceiling. I contemplated doing it while I was single, but didn't get it done. 35+ years as a mechanical engineer in mostly automotive, and much of my time off under cars or trucks, my happy place. Turned...
Plenty of discussions about this online. Bigger mass vehicle occupants will experience less change in velocity (Gs). But a lot of other sophisticated tech lessens occupant damage and reduces chance of having an accident, and the Land Cruiser is the top vehicle at those things, on top of being...
Last year I confiscated my '03 from my son in Washington after he neglected it for years. Limped to a few gas stations at midnight, looking for air for the tires and a well-lit space to look it over. 7.5 hours driving later I made it to my brother's house in Idaho, and we went out for...
Highway commute around the bottom of Lake Michigan to O'Hare, 174 miles each way, 5x per month. Very un-economical vehicle for this, but I'm so much less stressed driving in blizzards, past deer on the highway, hitting potholes, around crazy drivers. And of course, I'm compensating for various...
