Another rainy day in Florida. On the way home from work the driver-side wiper arm collapsed left and stayed there as the passenger-side wiper continued on. There in evidently something diconnected inside the windshield frame. How do you access the rods that push/pull the wiper arms? Take the...
I have my '78 Fj40 on the road now. All seems okay except for the knuckles are dry. I shot some grease in there today. I have never been into the front end of a FJ40....only Fords and Jeeps.
I want to know what tools I'll need to get the hubs,Birfields, Bearings, etc. loose from the vehicle...
First off, thanks for previous relies from you regarding my maddening manifold gasket leak. It was finally fixed when I ordered the HEADER gasket from Man-A-Fre,the makers of the header. It continued belching black smoke from the exhaust. This was finally cured by removing the Motorcraft 2 bbl...
Pinion, I will be using ONE of the old-style gaskets. It doesn't have the bolts holes on each end as the original does so I may hold it in place with the copper Perma-tex. I'll let you guys know how everything works.
I've posted ALOT in vain efforts to stop a continuos leaking intake / exhaust manifold leak on my Man-a-Fre 6 into 1 header and stock '76 manifold (on my '78 engine).
The leak persists even now. 2 Victor-Heinz (Napa) and 1 Felpro # MS22813 gaskets later. I've had the intake/exhaust planed...
I've removed the Intake manifold and Man-A-Fre header because of the second leaking gasket. As I cleaned things up I pondered further into this delimma. It appears that at least one or 2 of the header's bolt tabs have been bent in a little. Someone hammered in the #4 pipe to clear the bottom of...
Thanks again guys, especially IDave. You've been trying to talk me through this thing from the start. It is a Man-A-Fre 6 to 1 header,or what's left of one.
Anybody know of a good source for the OEM gasket? I'm a TLCA member, don't they have someone? No Toyota dealers around here.
Precision Machine Engines in Inverness Florida pulled, rebuilt, balanced & blueprinted my engine. Cost was $4000 OTD.
That included a Centerforce clutch ($300),flywheel turned, Radiator serviced, new water pump, various switches,etc.etc.etc.
....and believe me,there's ALOT of etc.s
Here we go again...3rd time. Once when 2F engine was professionally rebuilt. 26 miles later it leaked. I replaced it with another NAPA gasket after having the Man-a-Fre header and stock manifold planed. I also used the Copper Hi-Temp RTV by Permatex. I torqued it at 30 lbs. inside to out. Warmed...
WOW!!! This manifold leaking seems to be a big issue with these 2F engines. I guess my next try will be 2 o.e.m gaskets.
IDave, you say the torque spec is 14-22 lbs.? My Haynes manual says 30 lbs. ??? I torqued it to 40,adding for the extension, could that be part my problem?
I e-mailed...
Guys,I am running what appears to be (by catalog photos) a Man-a-fre 6-1 header and a stock intake. IDave, would that same torque spec apply with an aftermarket header ? Where are the best prices for Felpro or OEM gaskets?...I have to buy 2,for Pete's sake! :o
Offcamber,they quoted me $120 for...
Okay, common consensus is I evidently need to double the gaskets with that header. I had the Napa gasket. It was some sort of laminate. The outside was like a perforated metal. What's that called? They referred to it as a "composite".
So I need 2 gaskets of what kind, from where ? What do you...
I listened to the FJ gurus and had the 2F rebuilt. I had to tow the rig 2 1/2 hours one-way just to find a shop that would touch it. Most of our local redneck-wrenches don't know what a 2F is. They'd put a 350 Chevy on their washing machine if they could. It's all they seem to know. ::)
My...
IDave,it sounds like I have the same set-up you have. A Manafre 1-piece header and stock intake. If your set-up has worked for 9 months for you,I'll try to duplicate your method for now. I'd rather go stock and never have another leak.I'm in Florida so a heat riser shouldn't be an issue.
OEM...
Is the NAPA gasket considered an OEM? We don't have a Toyota dealer for miles.
Was 60wag referring to finally using one or two gaskets to prevent the bolts from loosening?
I'm sure I'll get this thing whooped yet >:(
I removed the Intake manifold & header today. No positive I.D on the headers but local Chevy fans says it resembles a Clifford. It looks like the one in the pages of Manafre catalogs, except where "Bubba" hammered one of the pipes to make room for the intake manifold. ::)
The intake manifold...
Since the motor was first rebuilt I had a problem. On the first trip out it ran like a sewing machine for the first 15 dirt road miles. Once it was well warmed-up it stalled terribly every time I took my foot off the gas.I suspected the carb. When I got home I noticed the smell of gasoline.The...
