This is an Australian 1982 BJ42 with stock front discs. I have had it 10 years.
I had a front left (passenger side) disc wear badly on the back from a sticking caliper and not catching it in time, and an overdue knuckle rebuild, so launched into a full front end rebuild. New discs both sides...
Forgive the title, I couldn't resist, I am actually 40 right now, but after 10 years it is coming time to move on my '82 BJ42 and I don't know where to go next.
In regards to what is available, I am in Australia.
I love my BJ42, most days, it is my daily driver, and other days I am kinda sick...
The rebuild is on hold because I can't find another damn split-case to buy and steal some parts out of. All of the 40 series wreckers, ebay options, and other people with 40 series spares, so far have only had the course spline older T-cases- either that or split cases with the handbrake on the...
I want to make my own low profile flat platform rack. The exact dimensions I will work out and design at a later date- right now I would like to get an idea of how to make/buy/alter the mounting system- the foot of the rack.
Has anyone got any images of the mounting systems (bought or made) for...
After establishing the problem I finally got the T-case off and have started pulling it apart and cleaning it.
Short story- bad noise and vibrations developed rather suddenly very recently (also slipping out of 4wheel into 2wheel in the past)- upon draining T-case oil there was virtually none-...
So, if I run at low RPM's in a gear (especially 3r or 4th with a bit more speed) at high torque- or lugging along -I am getting a sort of whining/whirring/vibrating noise- so far it sounds like it is coming out of the back end- the diff maybe? Doesn't particularly sound like it is from the...
Today while grabbing some tools out of my truck I noticed some grease splattered around my rim- and then I noticed the missing bolts on my hub:hhmm:
Every single bolt was finger loose. I tightened up the bolts that were left- tightened them a hell of lot which pulled the whole face plate thing...
So, I got the BJ42 registered and on the road friday afternoon and took off down the Great Ocean Road a couple of hours later.
Took it for a play on some nice wet muddy tracks yesterday and encountered my first problem.
Everything was going beautifully- 2WD, High 4 and then Low 4...
then there...
So, I want a smaller/sports steering wheel.
I have tried searches, and though I am sure this has all been said before- sorry... what are the options, the specifications of what to look for, new and/or second hand?
Specifically, I would like a wood/timber steering wheel.
I see a fair few...
No response on this thread yet so I thought instead of further threadjacking it I would start a new one.
Question is- the PO I bought this from had recently put a tacho back in- as it had been removed at some point by a PPO.
He has plugged it in- the light works in it, but the tacho itself...
More newb questions from me:hillbilly:
So- in removing my starter motor for investigation, and then a temporary solder-fix (to see if my engine would indeed run) I had to take off the clutch slave to get access to the bottom bellhousing bolt for the starter motor.
This all went fine-
the problem...
Alright,
title says most of it.
This is about my newly bought BJ42- that I have not got started yet (due to a bad starter motor.... I hope....)
It just got freighted to me-
it drove onto the truck- didn't drive off.
Battery was bad- max charge at 10%- replaced, still didn't turn over- so...
I have been and continue to search on this subject- but would love some straight forward advice (for the mechanically ignorant).
I want to look into and start planning the easiest and cheapest options of putting in a 5 speed box into my soon to be arriving BJ42- can I just take off a 5 speed...
Just thought I would post this link I found- (standard statement- I have nothing to do with this sale- nor the country of sale-lol)
eBay Motors: Toyota : Land Cruiser (item 250233799437 end time Apr-12-08 16:20:45 PDT)
looks like a nice one- $7,700 buy it now, or make an offer, free...
Introduction..
Hello all, new member here-
I have just finalized the deal on a 1982 BJ42- haven't yet seen it with my own eyes, let alone touched it- but had many long conversations about details and history, and had one of my uncles look over it and test drive it this afternoon.
I am buying it...
