    Radiator Repair?

Just discovered the side bracket for my radiator is loose from the tank at the top. Does anyone know if this bracket was attached to the tank by solder, brazing, TIG, or ? Any luck reattaching and if so, how did you do it? If i can't get it fixed and decide to replace, should I go for aluminum...

    Steering rod adjustments

Hey Guys, My rig is a '76 FJ40 that was my daily driver and weekend off-road toy for about 10 years and then sat under a tarp in my backyard for almost 10 years. I got her out of mothballs last spring and started to work on her. I rebuilt the knuckles and am in the process of installing a...

    Chassis paint recommendation

Hey Guys, Got only one reply to this post on the Paint and Body forum so I'm reposting here. Looking for recommendations on black paint for frame, suspension, steering, bumpers, brush guard, etc. This is for a '76 FJ40 that will be used primarily off-road, mainly dirt and mud, not a show rig...

    Another knuckle shim question

Hey Guys, Got the right hand side apart, cleaned and starting to reassemble. I put the shims that were on top and bottom back where they were when I disassembled things and torqued the steering arm nuts and bottom bearing retainer nuts to 50 ft lb as in Coolerman's excellent write-up. I could...

    Amateur needs advice!

Hey Y'all - Many years ago I decided I was tired of patching small rust spots about every year along the top wheel well to tub seams as well as other spots on the quarters of my '76 FJ40. Working in a gravel driveway and just learning to weld, I didn't think I was cable of replacing the entire...

Resuscitating a Porsche 944 and an FJ40 (long)

In the past few months I have “resuscitated” – meaning got running and moving under their own power – two very different vehicles that I have owned for 20 to 30 years but have not run for 10 years +/-. The first is a 1986 Porsche 944 with about 90,000 miles that I bought from the original owner...

    gastankrenu.com

Hey Guys, Got a crudded up tank in my '76 FJ40 that I need to clean out or have cleaned out and then sealed. It doesn't have any leaks but I haven't driven it for 5 years or so and I'm sure the outlet is rusted or dirty as I can't get any flow out. I've cleaned and sealed a couple of Harley...

Anti-seize or Teflon tape on brake fittings?

I've replaced a couple of brake tubes and am waiting on a wheel cylinder and removing the fittings has been a bitch. To make it easier on myself or the next owner, should I use Teflon tape or anti-seize on the fittings when I put things back together? Thanks, Pete

Wanted  FJ40 rear heater motor and fan

I have the heater core, pipes and tin but need a motor and fan. My rig is a 10/78 production so I think I need the motor and fan that fits 9/73 - 1/79. Could also use a clip or two that holds the top on. Pete

    Spring hanger pin ID

In preparing to replace worn rubber spring bushings on my 10/78 40, I ordered new greaseable frame pins from Spector. Spector shows different part numbers for front and rear and when I received the parts, I put a note in the box of stuff I had received with the pin numbers for front and rear. Of...

    Ambulance Door Latch

Hey Guys, Found several posts on the subject of ambulance door latches but nothing that quite addresses my question. I have lots of slop in the passenger side door lever which I would like to tighten up. I figured new bushings or washers or whatever could accomplish this but all I see is a thin...

    Wire loom clips

I'm wondering what you all use for the clips that hold the wiring harnesses in the engine bay to the fenders? I seem to recall on 2 or 3 Cruisers I've owned some white plastic clips that look like wire ties but that have a plug that pushes into a the hole in the fender (most were broken by the...

    Fluid transfer pumps

Hey Y'all, This morning on one of those TV car repair shows I saw gear oil being filled on a Corvette using a fluid transfer pump made by Assenmacher Specialty Tools. This pump could handle anything from ATF to 90wt and looked like it could be very handy for tranny and transfer, differentials...

Cost of power steering using 4x4 Toy truck box?

Hey y'all, Anybody have a rough idea of cost to add power steering with the mini truck box to a '76 FJ40? I see a well known Cruiser vendor offering all parts including a Saginaw pump except low pressure hose and box for about $400. I see rebuilt boxes for around $300 - $350, for a total around...

I just got some nice new Toyota bumperettes and if their pewter is the same as the gauge cluster, glove box door, ash tray, etc then I'll have one scanned at my local paint store and have them make me an aerosol can to use on a variety of parts like bucket seat backs and other pewter painted...
