    Early 2F motor musings.

So, I have a 1976 FJ40 that I bought in June of 2000. Right after buying it, I bought a hard top from a local 'Cruiser shop and they said that the engine wasn't running right. Long story short, it was in need of a rebuild. I pulled the 2F out of the engine bay and took it to a machine shop...

Air cleaner thermal flapper -Sniper install.

I am having a bunch of parts for my FJ40 Resto-Mod sand blasted and powder coated. One of those is the air cleaner assembly. My FJ40 was desmogged before I got it back in 2000, and the hoses off of the air cleaner were long gone. The flapper valve in the intake horn of the air cleaner has...

    1HD-FT for a swap.

So, I am dreaming of a 1HD-FT swap in my FJ40 (would stretch it 10"). I'd be running an H55F behind the 1HD-FE through for what I am thinking here I might see if there is a way to run an NV4500 or TR4050 instead. Seeing the prices of used 1HD-FT's, it seems that I could get a Cummins 2.8 new in...

    Does this 70 series exist?

So, what I'd like to find is a mid wheel base ( ~115in (3,000 mm)) 70 series with 1. Coil sprung, linked suspension front and rear. 2. 9.5" Axles F/R with rear full floater and RDBs. 3. 1HD-FT(E) or 1VD-FTV 4. Removable top. All as delivered from the Toyota factory. Does this vehicle...

Wanted  Land Cruiser rear FF axle.

Looking for a Land Cruiser rear full floating axle. 60 or 70 series preferred though I can make an 80 series FF rear work. Murray, Utah 84121 is the location.

    SeldomSeen 76 FJ40 rebuild.

So, I've had my 76 FJ40 'SeldomSeen' for 22 years as of June 4th. I bought it stock, with a BestTop soft top. Here it is, the day I brought it home in June 2000. This was in the days before digital cameras. This is a 35mm photo I scanned in some time ago. Not soon after I bought it, did I...

Wanted  93-97 80 series rear brake parts FF

I am looking for good backing plates, caliper adapters, calipers and maybe even the rotors for a 93-97 80 series rear full floater. Would need to be shipped to Utah or relatively close to SLC so I can pick up. Let me know what you've got.

    HDJ-81 rear axle.

I got a JDM HDJ-81 rear axle from a 1991 Land Cruiser. This is somewhat unique in that it can run 15" rims vs the NAS FZJ-80 FF running a 16" rim. I'd like to rebuild it and put it in my FJ40 (maybe narrow it). When I got it, the axle was missing the caliper adapters and the calipers, and...

    SeldomSeen 76 FJ40 Tub.

Since my FJ40 has been in my garage for quite some time, I figured it might be appropriate to take a look at the tub and see whats is going on with it. In short, it's not pretty. I think the only straight panel on the truck is the transmission hump. Both rockers, both B pillars, both quarter...

    Brake backing plate pattern.

I need to make a tool to press the bearings off of my Tacoma's axle shaft. I don't have a spare minitruck or tacoma housing, but I do have a spare FJ60 rear housing that I can cut up to make a press tool. Any clue if these are the same pattern? A quick measurement with a tape measure looks like...

    Tacoma FWD for extended period.

Hello, I had to have the pinion bearings in the rear diff of my Tacoma replaced. I had a spare diff from my Tundra that I Installed so that I wasn't home bound, but that diff was a 3.90 and the front diff is a 4.56. The Tundra diff also used a different driveshaft flange pattern than the Tacoma...

    Whats wrong with this picture?

What's wrong with this picture? I explicitly grabbed this Sandvik filler wire because it says 'Made in USA' when I could have purchased the Harris wire sitting on the shelf next to it, that says 'Made in China' for nearly $10 less. When I asked the guy behind the counter about it, he said...

    ESAB 205 AC/DC multiprocess welder.

I am looking at upgrading my welder(s). My current setup is, for MIG, a MillerMatic 175. It's been pretty good. I had to replace a few parts on it (Gun, solenoid control board) in it a few years ago, but other than the fact that it doesn't put out quite as much heat as I'd like it to, there's...

    Moving a Samurai...

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this in. But I have been asked to help move a Samurai. I have a tandem axle flatbed trailer that is enough trailer to move my FJ40. We're going to use this trailer ot move the Samurai. The trailer has working trailer brakes. The question here, comes...

    NordLocks on Knuckle studs.

Title says it all. I've seen issues where there is knuckle failure due to the knuckle studs loosening up over time, shearing and then causing bigger problem. I have a solution where I will re-torque my knuckle stud nuts daily, which is fine for someone who's pretty observant of such practices...

    Awnings for my Tacoma.

Hello, I am in the market for an awning for my Tacoma. I am debating between 3 different awnings. Eezi-Awn Swift Pros: Can be free standing but can also be poled down and guyed out. Least expensive. Available locally from Equipt1, he's in my 4x4 club, and I want to support Paul...

Towing with a BMW X5 vs Tacoma...

So, I have seen a thread where a guy is towing an FJ Cruiser with a BMW X5. Quick googling reveals that the X5 has a tow rating of 6,000 lbs. My Tacoma (quad cab long bed) has a tow rating of 6200 lbs. Why couldn't I tow a topless FJ40 on a flatbed with my Tacoma?

Well, I thought I had an exhaust leak...

I took my FJ40 out of hibernation and it was running fine, until it wasn't.... Sounded like a cylinder miss, but i thought it might be an exhaust leak rearing it's ugly head (have a ManAFre 6-1 header so I figured that might be the issue). But rather than pulling the exhaust system out, I...

    Tacoma suspension

My 2008 Tacoma is at 106k miles now (I put 52k of those on it!). The suspension is getting a little tired, now, so I am suspension shopping. I've run OME on my Land Cruiser and on my 4Runner, so I am leaning that direction. This truck is my 'expedition overland' vehicle, and is also my...
