HDJ100 GXL
4.2 turbo intercooled diesel 1HD-FTE
16" Factory alloy rims (still debating whether to powder coat...)
2" lift, 285/75/16 MT, rear bar and wheel carrier still to come...
I am Seriously jealous of the tire sizes you have available in the States :crybaby:
I reckon dark silver with the chrome mirrors and grill would look great, much like the 80 series gxl rim colour.
Another idea  I had a friend who had a hilux and he painted his white rims dark green, a left over sukuki vitara colour from his paint shop.
He did it for a laugh and it was...
Sweet looking shorty :D, the snorkel and ARB bar definately was a good adition.
I reckon if you painted those rims a dark grey or silver colour it would look even tougher:grinpimp:
I would REALLY advise not using the hand throttle, a few years back I went to sleep at the wheel after a very long ( 9 hour drive ) I was using the hand throttle as a cruise control. I went off the road on a steep shoulder, very frightening experiance. With the clutch in the engine was screaming...
No it was from an old timer in SA, he ordered it new from the factory in that colour, he had to wait many months for it:rolleyes:
I think most 75s are now legal for import into the states now due to their age.
Cool looking troopy :D
My first 70 series was a 75 series 87 troopy with the 2H , that bus was awesome. It was red with the grey interior. At that time it was incredibly rare colour. Nearly all 70 series in Aus then were white with the occasional tan one, Excellent 4wd with the 2H, I did over...
Thanks Clint, The pockets came from ARB, or you can order them direct from Outback. They are easy to fit only 2 screws and backing plates, they are designed to go forward more on the door. I chose to put them back a bit to keep them out of sight. Because of this I had to drill one hole through...
Orange,
Take it from me ( also a FJ45 owner ) once the 70 bug gets a hold on you it is almost impossible not to be changed forever ;)
The 70 series still has that nostagic 40 stlye ( with a modern twinge ) and ease of working on.........
So when are you getting one ?
Here is a bit of an update on my daily driver, I just purchased some IPF X900 spot lights, rubber flexy flares and Outback door pockets on each door.
I have removed the side drop down panels on the rear tray temporarily, but it looks pretty neat without them, I think even the pooch is happy...
Yeah my wider tryres dont stick out past the bars but the mud spray definately gets thrown everywhere ! its pretty hard to see out the windows even after a short drive in sloppy conditions. I am waiting for a phone call from ARB rtight now, they are fitting the flexy flares and some IPF X900...
Looks great Clint, though I am biased as I have the same rims on mine :) it definately gives it a different look than the other 1 million cruisers with the white spoker wheels.
Good work Clint !
They will stick out the front guards about a inch so now you will need some flares to keep the spray off the windows and the cops off your back ;)
Found this link - it is in French but interesting to note the suspension modifications- pretty scary looking photo during the test drive when the troopy is on 2 wheels
