There is a guy in Waterloo, NE that has a 73 for sale. He said he pulled it out of a friends field around Milford. I went and looked at it a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if its been sold yet. Its pretty rough and probably only good for parts. Took a few pics.
Welcome. Here are my 2 FJ40's. The yellow one (78) is mine and the tan one (77) was my fathers. My father had someone at the Toyota dealership in Las Vista rebuild his 2F engine. I think he did it on his own time so he didn't charge dealership prices. He is very knowledgeable is everything...
Thanks. I ended up searching the part number online and found Lewis Toyota out of Kansas could send me a new tank for $390. That was the cheapest I found that included shipping. They had a deal during Sept. that was free shipping. That saved about $50. Got the part in a week.
Hello everyone,
I'm in need of a new fuel tank for my 78 FJ40. They are still available from Toyota. I've seen there are places on the west and east coast and CCOT has replica tanks that I've heard good things about. Does anyone get new parts at discounted prices from any local Toyota dealers...
Not looking at the price of both tanks, which tank is better? A new tank from Toyota or the replica tank from CCOT. CCOT says the replica tank is made from galvanized steel which is supposed to prevent rust. What is the Toyota tank made from and would it do the same thing?
I already have the tank drained. The fuel that drained out was a nasty dark brown and the bottom of the bucket was filled with particles. I had a clear fuel filter installed for the last year and you could see the sediment (color) in the filter. I'll get the steel replica tank. OEM is too...
I just called a radiator shop that I've taken tanks to before. He said he would have to look at it before he could give me a quote. He asked if there is a lot of rust inside and asked what a replacement tank would cost. Told him the inside has a lot of surface rust. and told him a replacement...
I've owned the 40 since 1997. After I got it, it was torn down and everything was gone thru and fixed. I'm almost sure this is a OEM tank, original to this cruiser. I've only used the premium gas in it. Always tried to stay away from ethanol.
My FJ40 doesn't get driven as much as it should (life, kids). The tank has always been full, but the gas was about 3 years old. I always added Sta-bil to the tank when it wouldn't get driven during the winter, but can only add so much every year. I started having engine issues while driving...
My 77 FJ40 has those bumpers on the rear seat bottoms. When my father bought this 40 back in the 80's, someone had made some storage boxes to go under the seats when they were down. They gave support for the seats and also somewhere to put stuff. Just another idea for you.
I have the OME suspension in my 77 FJ40. You need the cup washers. I removed my shocks to replace the bushings and found one was missing. I just ordered some yesterday from the Toyota dealership.
