Yup, could be low vacuum, low brake fluid or just bad wiring connections causing the flickering light. Follow the fuel line from the ip back towards the tank, the separator should be a cylinder mounted vertical with a fuel line in and out and a wiring connection?
If you don't have a seat belt...
Light B is parking brake, or brake failure (left side) and seat belt warning (right side) not sure about the other one?
Your water separator is usually on the frame under the running board, drivers side? but looks like you have a R/H drive model so it may be on the passenger side.

Thanks for the fix iron_giant (CANADIAN) 24 volt models?, btw my 81 bj42 had an original 24 volt radio when I got it?? is this another only in canada thing?
Cheers
24 volt head lites
Yup, on a 24 volt land cruiser the only two things that are not 24 volt are the headlites, go figure!!, oh and the batteries!, go figure. makes no sense to me?
yes the 24 volt bulbs are more exspensive, ask the sales person to kiss you when you buy these (I like to be kissed while I'm getting ******, well you get the the picture) anyways the GE part number for stop / tail should be 1662, and the signal should be 1683, and they do have a different pin...
Ok, it will be a few days before I can get to the truck again, the rectangular black relay is definately working correctly, the other relay does not seem to be getting the correct voltage on the coil side (2-4 Volts??) which should be caused by a faulty timer? I will pull and check both relays...
I forgot to mention, the glow plugs were not working and my freind was not able to find 6.5 volt plugs he ended up with 10.5 volt?
Will the timer circuit time out with the wrong plugs or bad plugs? and does the timer circuit measure the current going to the plug or just time out based on engine...
Hi all
A friend of mine is having problems with his 84 bj60 (12 volt) superglow system.
The glow plugs are staying on after the engine is started, and when I checked the engine was at operating temp. He had the correct plugs (6.5 volt) but they were burned out?? I did not get to check them...
Have you seen any real numbers from the producers John? if so please share, I have read on a few different forums that the new diesel is not the same as the old diesel and also the quality has been steadily declining over the last 15 years. I have also read that the newer engine are designed to...
The question, is not what will harm the engine or (what the fuel type is) but how do we protect the IP, the diesel engine will burn just about any hydro carbon fuel, but the IP needs lubrication and the new fuels do not provide that lubrication. So burn any fuel provided its clean, but insure...
Some mileage numbers;
First tank 47 MPG (Imp)
Second tank 50 MPG ( Imp)
The second tank included a 160 Km run @ 90-110 Km, if I just drive the under 90 roads and around town I should get my 55 MPG!! Those numbers also include various changes to the car, tires timing etc.
Cheers
Yup the 5-spd is great, love mine. I don't think the gearing on either tranny is great but if you want to drive over 90 Kph for any amount of time its nice to have number five. Mine will cruise along at 100+ without going over 2500 Rpm, If you don't drive on the highways (over 80 -90 Kph) it...
Thanks for the links and info ntsqd! seems like there were alot more diesel VW's in the US then there were Diesel Landcruisers?
Just waiting to fuel up again so I can check mileage, but it probably won't be great as the timing was really off?
and Makelo after just a few weeks of owning this...
My 81 BJ42 has the rectangular dash glow switch (stock item) as well as the reverse ignition switch glow position. Not sure if this is a Canadian bj42 1981 only setup, but mine is stock this way.
BTW my 81 also came with the side window defrost tubes mentioned above.
Cheers
Hi maggdog
Perhaps a new mechanic would solve alot of your problems? A good mechanic would not be randomly hooking up wires to see if it works (at your exspense!) If you can find an automotive electrical shop within 200 miles of where you live it would be worth the trip, these guys know what...
brisveganbj42, I hope you didn't order from Toyota?? in Canada the part is $126 at the local diesel shop $26.
Just wanted to remind everybody who is planning on changing their injector diaphram!
Cheers
Hmmm, maybe your getting poor results because of valve sooting? on one cylinder? it would not take much on a valve seat to foul the tests you are using. Try a good hard run, engine hot foot to the floor on a flat grade and get those egt's up to the top, then recheck? blow that 27 years of carbon...
Hi FLcruiser
Yes easy to work on is right! spent a few hours this afternoon tinkering not bad to get at parts and real simple car in general. The p/o worked on the timing and it was off! I mangaed to slip the belt off the injector pump and move it one notch. The car runs much better now and I...
