    1968 FJ40 Build in Colombia

Finished Painting, Engine and Gearbox on the frame I haven't posted for a while, a lot of work on the truck but very little to show or comment. Mostly painting small parts (they take forever, paint on one side, wait until they dry and paint the other side because not all of them can be hanged...

    Storing an engine

I still have it. Thanks for your interest but I want to keep it, who knows if in the future I would like to start a new project with it.

I would guess the water pump. If it is full of rust, it can make some noise that dissapears after the friction takes the rust out. When you let it sitting, the rust builds up again.

Congrats on your observation skills. The original tub is a 68 but I didn´t like the fact that the fuel tank was inside the cabin and the cowl was in bad shape (on the first pictures you can see that). I got a "new" body from a 79 (the white one you see on the color testing pics) that was used...

Thanks for the comments. This weekend I will take pictures with a better camera so the color is closer to the real thing.

    1968 FJ40 Build in Colombia

My wife said yes to the FJ but I bet she's more than regretting it!. :) In the 60s and 70s, four wheel drive vehicles with a hard top had to pay higher taxes than the ones with a canvas top, so most of the FJs that were imported had a soft top and people installed an aftermarket version like...

    1968 FJ40 Build in Colombia

Blue is a hard color to get in a picture, specially if it is a cellphone and the lights are white. All these picutres were taken at the same time, with the same cellphone and all the paint came from the same container, I know the color is exactly the same in all the painted parts, forgive my...

    1968 FJ40 Build in Colombia

Color This was one of the most difficult questions I made myself during the last two years!!! This was the first time in my life that I could have a car with exactly the color I wanted, so this makes things hard. You normally have to adapt to what the dealer has but in this case I could...

    distributor problems

Good luck, also, get some band aids in advance, your fingers and knuckles will need them after the break-a-thon of bolts that comes with the teardown

    HJ45 LHD Conversion Possible?

Not being an expert, the only differences I see are in the dashboard (glove box and sterring wheel are on the wrong side), steering box and tie rods. Replacing the steering is a common upgrade, you shouldnt have problems there, the dasboard would require a lot of fabrication or replacement.

    1968 FJ40 Build in Colombia

Thanks all you guys for the positive comments. This weekend, if we don have bad weather, I should be painting the truck. In the meantime, some pics on the surface preparation. First, my 0,000002 cents. Surface prepping is a real pain, not only in the butt, but in your hands, elbows, shoulders...

Body mount help, first ones on the bed

In my 68, the rubber mounts that came where you have the circle, were glued to the frame and the bed rests on them and keeps them in place.

    1968 FJ40 Build in Colombia

When I finished the engine swap, all the mechanical parts that needed to be fixed, were done. I had new brakes, new power steering, new engine and gearbox new suspension (sorry no pics but I installed Series 70 springs under the axle. I got them curved so the distance between the ends of the new...

    1968 FJ40 Build in Colombia

Volcanocruser, anything that you need, please ask. Well, continuing with the story, I must make clear that I´m posting only the parts that were final on the car. If I have learned something with this project is that you sould never make temporary fixes, or invest money halfway in the sense...

Thanks, It will look nicer if I ever finish. :) The mudflaps are realatively inexpensive and easy to find here in Colombia, I personally don't like them and removed them asap. Carpet in the back Carpet in front More mudflaps
