Pondering a SBC Swap for my FJ62...

Having done this swap myself, the only out-sourced labor was PCM re-program and I had the tranny rebuilt, I still spent around $5K. If I had to do it again I would have saved the money on the 5.3 and went with a TBI 350 and used the extra for a 5 speed conversion.

    wrapped headers

I used the wrap on my engine swap just to keep the heat away from wiring and such and used the spray coating as well to keep the fluids from getting trapped on the wrap and setting it ablaze. I also routed fuel and tranny cooler lines as far from the pipes as possible.

    Gutter mount canoe racks?

You can use the non-slip foam pads as well. Picked some up from Bass Pro about $20-25. They slide over the gunwale and then just set the canoe on top of the roof and strap down at either end and the mid section strap through the doors. Not as nice as having a rack but works in a pinch.

    Goat 5.3

Glad to see you are getting it figured out. Been driving mine for a few weeks thankfully no codes yet and other than the lower radiator hose popping off the other day my temps mostly stay around 195-198 unless sitting in traffic and then only goes to 202. Even after the hose popped off and I...

    Vortec in a FJ62

For wiring I did my own and to get the ECM programmed only cost me $75.

    Vortec in a FJ62

Just finished my swap and was in the 5.5K range for me doing all labor myself but I had my tranny built. If you don't want to build the tranny then make sure you get a 2wd tranny for the tail shaft. The power is great up to hwy speed in not time flat. Don't have my MPG yet but looking at 13-15...

    V-8 Conversion Cooling

Finally got a good run on mine after getting the trans shift issue figured out. Did one day at 104F and never got above 202F with out the electric fan with the elec turned on only got to 195F. Did a long run yesterday at 100F in stop and go and only hit 198F. I am running stock mech fan and...

    FJ60 LS1 Conversion Guage connection?

Would be best to just use aftermarket gauges and senders. That is what I did on my conversion. For the dash I just used a piece of aluminum cut to fit and then drilled the holes for the gauges. Or look at mwdubs blank panel although I don't know how the panels are set up on a RHD vehicle.

    1989 FJ62

Good Price I paid $3200 for my '88 with 177K almost no rust and a dent in rt rear quarter pnl. Who needs A/C (yea right its hot as you know what here), been without it for a year doing my V8 conversion.

    Dana 44 Lengths

Stock Toyota axles are pretty stout especially for 31s. Plenty of guys are running 35s with stock axles and just upgrade the birfields. Is there a special reason that you want 44s? No matter what you will have to have the axle cut on the rear to fit the offset from the t-case. In my opinion...

Looking for a definitive guide for Vortech conversion for 60s

For pulling the wiring in the existing harness I looked into it and it is not worth the time for the wires that will be removed. However on the engine harness I used the stock (in my case 5.3) harness and striped what was not needed and did my own harness not very hard at all and completed the...

    Novel anti-theft idea?

x3 with Spike Strip the best theft deterrent in my opinion. A nice electrical shock would work well to but then you have to worry about the neighbors kids accidentally bumping into it.

    Oyaji's FJ60

I think most guys running 35s are SOA and that will be even more cost unless you already have it figured in.

    Brake line and fitting question

I had both lines from the chassis to axles built for about $65 going to be hard pressed to find them that much cheaper. Brake system is not where you want to go the cheapest route and our brakes need as much help as possible.

    Novel anti-theft idea?

If you don't mind installing it every time you get out go for it. If you are looking at immobilizing the vehicle why not a shifter lock or a brake line lock type set-up. Although if a thief wants it bad enough he will get it.

Help with tires on rims 15x7.5

x2 on 33x10.50s personally wouldn't go past a 33x12.50 or you could go in between and look at 32x11.50s. Just depends on what you want and your plans are for the vehicle.

    Brake line and fitting question

You could also try your local hose shop. That is what I did for extended lines and their lines are DOT approved for 3000+ psi. Easiest way to do it is to pull the lines (have to come off anyway) and take them to the shop as most can make the lines while you wait. Just my .02

    Oyaji's FJ60

Good luck with the V8 swap. Don't know of anyone who hasn't liked theirs. Once you get the bugs worked out the power is worth it. Don't get me wrong the straight six is awesome for low end grunt but is lacking on the highway especially with an auto. If money wasn't an issue I would have put...

Nice looking bumper simple and stout exactly what I am planning on when I build mine. Also do you have an old school Bronco uncut in the background?
