Well it's been a long fun journey, and while never 100% finished, I'm abck on the road after 28 month restoration. I couold not have done it without all the experts on this forum, not to mention you all made it just plain fun!!!
To start, I took the truck down to the frame, went through the wiring, basically cleaned the connections, removed the PO splices for fog lights and trailer harness. I have everything working EXCEPT, my right turn signal will not blink in the front lamp, the rear lamp will not even come on, and...
I have a non-USA dizzy in a 12/74 FJ40, and was told the part numbers for the components were;
Toyota P/N:
Points--19145-26060
Cap--19101-41041
Rotor--19102-61030
Condensor--19133-60040
The rotor was the only part number Toyota parts recognized, what are the correct part numbers for the...
I had the fj running, and needed to adjust basically everything since the rebuild. As soon as I attached the tach/dwell meter to the coil (+ side) there was a small spark and the engine died. The engine fuse was blown, I replaced it, but now she will not start, I replaced the coil, still no...
I'm finally at the point of starting her up after 2 years, and I read the horror stories of no oil pressure. I have a non-USA dizzy, which if you view from the side does not look fully seated so I stabbed her several times and used a remote starter can feel her slip into the oil pump, still...
I finally got the 40 started after 2 years of restoring, but as soon as she sparks she races to max RPM. If I play with the choke I can get her to calm down, but to rough to drive.

I think I've read every post on static timing and tried them all, but I still cannot get a light or spark. With the key in the on position (engine off) should I get votage to the wire that goes to the distributor? I only get 12 volts when I'm actually trying to start the engine, but 0 volts...
I installed the HFS 4" lift with 1.5" shackles on my 74 FJ40 and my brand new OEM relay rod is right against the drivers HFS shock. I called CCOT when I first notice and Manny told me to wait until more weight was on the truck, well a year later I have the complete drive train, & body installed...
I'm on the final stretch of my build, and should be ready to turn the engine over in another week (hopefully). The engine (rebuilt) has been sitting idle in the chasis for about a year, should I skirt some oil in each cylinder before turning it over? How much and does it matter what type of oil?
When I bought my 74 FJ40, two wires were sticking out of the upper dash and disconnected. everything seem to work, as I drove it daily for 6 months before starting the frame off. Now as I reassembly I discover that the two wire most likely went to this relay in the upper dash. I would assume...
Finally got around to rebuilding the heater blower, but I have one question. On my 12/74 where does the debris screen mount? I know it mounts to the bottom vent on the inside, but is it attached directly to the cab side under the glove box, or directly to the heater blower between the blower and...
