The clamshell-type shields on my exhaust are rusting, loose and noisy. I took one off a few months ago and haven't replaced it yet. Now, I need to remove a second one.
What is the purpose of these covers? I've heard they are for fire prevention if you are driving/parking in tall grass.
I'm...
Thanks for the guidance, Christo! Looking forward to installing the updated terminals!
KLF, everything in that engine bay looks new - nice work! Seven years and counting is an impressive lifespan. I'm not sure I can swing $500 for an AGM, but it's tempting....
I also found a crispy mouse stuck in a fan belt. Poor dude. I really hope he was just around for a short visit and not chewing on any electron-carrying components and responsible for the random electrical gremlins.
Here are some shots of "shimmed" terminals. I hope it starts in the morning...
The new billet battery terminals from Slee are out of stock at the moment and are due in about three weeks. I will order some when they are available.
I cleaned up the terminals tonight. The negative side seemed worse and had a good amount of black substance between the lead alloy battery...
That video is really helpful - thank you. We have a few warm days coming up and I will tackle that. I didn't know that was a common issue with the 200 series.
Ken, it's great to hear from again. Yeah, I will focus on the battery area and hope it also cures the weird electrical gremlins as well (like not being able to turn off the Rear fan).
Yep, we have certainly had some weird weather in our area. Speaking of Saturday, I hiked up Mount Washington...
I went to start up the truck this morning and was met with the "no start" issue. After pushing the start button, the steering wheel began to extend outward toward me (as it typically does), but then everything went black and stopped. There was no response from the Start Button. I tried it...
Will do. I installed the Slee upgrade kit with the larger battery back in 2019 and haven't touched it since. I did apply dielectric grease to the terminals and now it's covered in an oil undercoating "mist".
Yep, it's been raining pretty good - I'm in the seacoast NH area. The last time it showed this behavior was after sitting overnight at around 30F and it was snowing.
In the past few days, I've hit the "Start" button and nothing has happened. The dash lights don't turn on or anything. After trying a few times, the truck fires up.
In other vehicles (80 series etc), when a starter is going bad, the dash lights would at least illuminate.
QUESTION = When a...
CanadianRockyCruiser, thanks for the guidance and I especially appreciate referencing the gasket part number -- that really helped visualize the area. I will see if I can get some better picture - I have access to an endoscope.
GOLIGHTLY, thank you! Yeah, the thermostat and water pump look...
My LX570 has ~190,000 and has been losing coolant recently. I noticed that there is coolant residue in the area shown in the photo. Where it is likely leaking from?
I just found this thread that details transfer case tuneup: Transfer Case Tuneup and Fix - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/transfer-case-tuneup-and-fix.1215394/
Today, I was dragging my dump trailer out of a sloped/muddy area, so I popped it into 4LO. I then needed to get out of 4LO, but it was stuck in 4LO. It took about 30 minutes of randomly driving forward, driving backward, switching between 4LO/4HIGH, coasting in Neutral and restarting to pop it...
Here's a shot of the "coin cubby" with the wire harness routed through the back:
This shot shows the grounding point for the harness (that point had less than 100 milliohms of resistance from the negative battery terminal):
I added a zip tie "pull tab" to the connector to allow...
Just installed a Tekonsha P3 with the vehicle specific harness for my 2011 LX570. Thanks to everyone's info in this thread, it was straightforward. The LX570 has a "coin cubby" to the left of the steering wheel and I followed the lead of others and put the controller there.
Here's all the...
I'm reluctant to sell, but I need to fund some house projects. I've owned this 1997 LX450 for the last 16 years.
This rig is the sought-after "triple locked" version with front, center and rear differential lockers.
It comes with the following notable extras:
(1) 12,000 lb Milemarker...
Now at week 6 of the Highlander being at the garage (they say it will done next week), we learn that it wasn't the main timing chain that broke. It was one of the two smaller chains. I assume this still means that the interference damage can still occur, but would be limited to one cam and three...
Not sure yet - the mechanic has not dug into it yet (it's been sitting in their parking lot for weeks as we wait...).
We know that an engine swap is the best route. However, the reality is that we cannot afford a new engine (quotes from $8,000 to $11,000). So, to just get something for my Mom...
