1969 FJ40
rebuilt engine
original 3-speed tranny and original transfercase
I have this chatter sound that is driving me nuts. I'm fine with the high pitch whirring of transmission and hum of tires but this chatter is driving me nuts.
Under load by speeding up fast or ascending a hill it goes...
I suck at Haynes and other manuals. The wording on the diagrams seems to not match the directions or torque table.
So after breaking one bolt I figured I should post.
Progression; f-bombs, beer then firearms. So I stopped at beer! Just kidding (kinda)
After inspecting my airfield I'm...
My speedometer has skipped a lot for the last few years. Took it apart tonight and this gear is ground down. Can’t figure out how to remove it? Does anyone know? Does anyone know where I can buy a new one?
Selling my roll cage for $550
It's 10-years old but my cruiser never goes out in the winter and barely ever in the rain unless by accident. My 1969 FJ40 has little to no rust. Roll cage has a little surface rust that sandpaper can take off. Paint job was super thin rattle can job.
Took off to...
I am selling my 1969 rear long jump seats. My wife had me buy a roll cage and I always meant to try and rework these to fit but never bothered and ended up buying a bench seat for the back.
I have brand new Specter covers that have not been installed and the foam. Squirrels ate some of the foam...
I bought an automotive meter and want to test dwell.
Can anyone explain how to do that?
My 69 40-series is running, but sighs really loud when I turn it off I'm always afraid it will backfire
My timing is right to the bb before TDC too. Used a timing light a specified RPM with vacuum advance...
Ok, I had a previous post for my 1969FJ40 where I rebuilt my engine and put it in. I wasn't getting spark and traced it to a broken ignition wire at coil. Fixed that and it fired right up.
Was 10-minutes into engine break-in when I noticed water leaking under rig. Thankfully I was just using...
1969fj40
$30k+ into pig
Professional rebuilt engine.
I just installed it.
New starter installed today.
Engine turns over (fan spins, dizzy rotor spins, flywheel spins, etc etc.)
Step-by-step
No spark at plugs (see first photo)
No spark on lead from coil to Dizzy. Disconnected it at dizzy...
Ok, longs story made short.
I bought my first FJ40 about 12-years ago and basically rebuilt all of it and stupid have just over $30k into it (makes me sick). Anyway, last fall I got the timing spot it on and it purred like a kitten. I took of with glee only to have the engine seize 3-miles away...
I've rebuilt my engine and put it back into pig, about to put radiator back in but I hate the little plastic plug that it came with. Had to reach up to it with needle nose pliers to remove it.
I loved the long drain down tube on my old radiator but the threaded hole on new radiator base is much...
1969 FJ40
Can someone help me identify what this large threaded hole is for?
In the photo you can see the grease fitting for my 3-on-the-tree column shifter and to the right of that my clutch slave.
While installing my inspection cover to bottom of bell housing, I noticed that large threaded...
Sitting on side of road waiting for AAA.
Just replaced clutch, pressure plate, all new gaskets in tranny and transfer, set timing, checked oil and antifreeze.
Started right up. Drove about 2 1/2 miles and the engine started making this metallic ping.
Then started to lose power. Pushed in...
I have cruiser running.
RPM's at 400
Timing light clamped to lead to spark plug/ cylinder #1
On flywheel, I'm not even close to TDC mark.
After sealing off dizzy vacuum;
I rotated dizzy both directions to point of cruiser about to stall.
Could timing light be malfunctioning?
Does dizzy need...
I know the timing issue has been beaten quite a bit, but I thought some photos might be nice.
First photo is picture of F-engine flywheel at TDC, NOT 7-degrees BTDC.
I just had my flywheel shoulder ground down to 15mm from face of flywheel on 3-speed tranny, 3-finger pressure plate, F-engine.
After installing, I found the rod isn't long enough! I adjusted it right out near the end of the threads. Is this normal when you grind down a flywheel, that you then...
Below is a photo of my flywheel. I had it resurfaced but since I've had my rig back together it doesn't have a lot of power. Will barely make it up a slight incline. I thought maybe the clutch was slipping. I couldn't smell it burning, but wasn't sure.
I read that when a flywheel is...
After replacing all the seals and gaskets in transfer & tranny, resurfacaing flywheel and putting in new clutch and pressure plate, I put everything together.
I don't think the ground down the shoulder to the flywheel, so I'm taking all apart again.
After disconnecting rear driveshaft, I...
I had my flywheel ground and I'm not sure they ground the shoulder down.
I rebuild tranny and transfer and installed a new clutch and pressure plate.
I am not getting much power and thin the clutch is slipping. I've adjusted the clutch fork and pedal.
Question 1: If shoulder of flywheel was...
What is this knurl on the side of my distributor for?
I also replaced the points and it came with this little packet of lube. Where does it go? On the points? Is it dielectric grease?
Is there a gasket here between output shaft and emergency brake housing?
Is there a gasket on front output shaft between flange and front drive shaft flange?
I'm guessing there isn't on either, but just curious.
