Hey Mudders.. I'm in a bit of pickle.
I was evacuating my R12 System when the vacuum pump lost power. It was unattended at the time and an unknown volume of the Mineral Oil Lube for the pump got sucked into the FJ's AC system.... UGGG ! So I do not have a reference to know how much oil was in...
Spook:
Absolutely agree about NO liquid charge into the low (suction side) while the compressor is running. However it is safe and recommended from both Envirosafe and Duracool to charge the coolant in a liquid state (Upside Down Can) into the suction side while the compressor is off and then...
All of this sounds very reasonable... I am not a professional by any means so good luck. I even went to their web page and looked at the oil checkers they have. I might have to start using those.

I recall when I did mine 10 years ago I got so mad that I grabbed my swazall and an 18” blade and cut the old PS Pump off and chucked it down the driveway. Shaved the bolts and things were good. I would not do that now. I would get the old one rebuilt. Parts are getting scarce.
Wish you luck. A 30LB tank will last a long time. I have not needed a top-up since I converted in 2018. This last weekend it got 100F in Vegas. I was getting 40F vent temps with the outside air coming in. Humidity was 10%. Freeway speeds.
Duracool and other Hydrocarbon based refrigerants are based on a purified propane and isobutane mix. The molecules are larger and the need to repair a small leak goes down. I would get a manifold set for R12 on Ebay and Beg / Borrow / Buy a vacuum pump. Pull a vacuum and see if the system...
You can charge a system under vacuum with a hydrocarbon refrigerant such as RedTek or Envirosafe.
If you have pulled a vacuum on your system because it was opened to the atmosphere for repair, it is recommended that a liquid charge (upside down can) to the suction (low) side of the...
So.. I am not sure if a silicone hose will work at that spot. The air injection rail gets pretty hot and I am not certain if a special hose is used or not there. The PSI should be low still so there would not be a need for special clamps.
Sorry I do not have any hard data here for you on that as I am no longer running R-134A. Maybe someone with some AC smarts can post up vent temps (NON-IR) while idling @2000 rpms at a specified ambient temp and humidity with the AC @ MAX and the fan set to mid level. Hard to compare side by...

Replying to your message to me here as I could not load the page snip from the FSM. Look at step D It is not super clear but to me it reads .9LBS more than the specified amount. Don't know why they state it that way. My pressures with R12 were way low until I figured that out.
I wonder what the cost is from Mexico? You can get Duracool for $8.99 in single cans, price goes down when you buy more. Amazon has Envirosafe for $32.00 for 6 cans with free shipping. Just evacuate the R12 and you are good to go. AND you don't need to worry about customs.
I used normal clamps. Very low PSI on the smog pump. I is now June 2019 and no issues. I would use the proper clamps if used for a higher PSI application.
