    Bending steering components (on purpose)

Long ago I saw some talk on here about bending knuckle arms to work better with certain setups. I have a non-FJ40 application that has strange looong tie rod ends that I'd really like to bend. Can/has this been done safely ever?

    Battery charger / starter

I've got kids now, so I don't get to drive my BJ42 as much as I'd like. I never fully chased down the electrical gremlin that slowly drains my battery, but now we have a situation where the battery is frequently found dead, and occasionally VERY dead to the point that these new fangled "smart...

For Sale  1985 BJ73 RHD Colorado

This truck is practically a 'mud celebrity at this point... for sale is our beloved BJ73, "Moose." Asking $10,000. I bought Moose from Ratpuke back before I had a wife, a house, or a child... now that I have all three my transportation priorities have changed and he needs to move on...

    Windshield availability?

Can anyone tell me if any of the windshields for the folding-top 70 series (like a BJ73) are still available? 56111-90K05 ZONE TEMPERED GLASS, T=5.0 56111-90K06 TINTED ZONE TEMPERED GLASS, T=5.0 56111-90K07 LAMINATED GLASS, T=5.3 56111-90K08 TINTED LAMINATED GLASS, T=5.3

    70-series cabin fan intake?!

Where the hell is the external intake for the cabin/interior fan?? My fan suddenly got clogged up with fabric/insulation type material, it must have sucked it in from outside... or a mouse carried it in there. I need to find where the external intake is, but I'm stumped, I looked all over the...

    FRP Top tag replacement

I realize that this is a SUPER-niche issue, but on the off chance anyone ever has this problem again... I lost one of my "FRP Top" nameplates from the B pillar on my BJ73. There is an ugly hole and bolt hidden behind there, so it looks like s*** with the plate missing. However these parts...

    Rotary pump fuel screw

On the rotary pump, which way do you turn the screw to turn fuel DOWN? I'm trying to reduce smoke on my BJ73 which failed emissions last year. I found the fuel screw that lynchmob pointed out in this thread, but when I loosened the locknut and turned the screw, it was ALL the way in. I can...

    Ammeter pegged, no blown fuses?

I've had a weird electrical issue pop up this week - At idle the ammeter reads 0A, but as soon as I raise the throttle, it pegs at +50A. Voltmeter looks normal, battery doesn't seem to be low. All fuses are fine. I removed the fuses one-by-one and none of them affected the ammeter reading...

    Failed emissions

BJ73 (rotary pump) failed emissions... I knew it was smokey, but I was surprised at how far off I am. Injectors are new (1 year), timing was checked and is spot on. Air filter is OK, I think. The big thing is that I'm at 5200' elevation, not much I can do about that. Opacity requirement is...

Does anyone extend their 4wd lever?

My 40 is a DD and in the winter months I shift to-from 4wd a lot as I move from slippery to dry pavement. The stock lever is a bit of a reach for me, but it looks like there is clearance for an extension that would bring it up closer to the transmission shifter... has anyone done this...

Should I be able to move the parking brake cable by hand?

My parking brake wasn't releasing so I pulled the cable assy out of the truck. I can move the brake cable about 1/16" before it locks up hard... It stops so solidly that it almost feels like it was designed that way? Or is it majorly busted? Should I be able to pull the cable back and forth...

    3B opacity test - Colorado

Anyone know if a 3B will pass Colorado's diesel opacity test? Limits are something like 30 or 40% on a dyno.

3B 4-row radiators, left hand outlets

Anyone have a good part number for a 3B 4-row radiator with both outlets on the left (for a 70 series)? 16400-58160 is the original p/n for my 85 BJ73 w/ AC - not available 16400-58170 is a number for an equivalent part I found on the forum - not available 16400-58310 is another number I found...

Is it possible to see the water pump impeller while the pump is installed?

Taking the cooling system apart is irritating, I'd rather not do this again - while I have everything drained and the rad removed I'd like to inspect the water pump to make sure everything looks good. Can I see the impeller through the lower rad hose port, perhaps?

Test run without fan or shroud?

I have cooling problems. I'd like to measure the temperature across the radiator to see if its clogged up, but the AC condenser (front) and fan shroud (back) block my access. I have a good digital temperature gauge installed already... could I remove the fan and fan shroud and run the engine...

3B starter replacement - nose cone swap

This is old old old news, but since I was a little frustrated finding pics and part numbers, this is my contribution... Starters for 3B's like mine (p/n 28100-56080 for a 12V 1982 BJ42 w/ EDIC) have long been discontinued. The motor itself, however, is used in other Toyota starters and can be...

    Fan clutches

Summer is coming and I want to bring my BJ73's cooling system up to "perfect"... but I have a bit of a part number mystery. EPC says the fan for a 12/1984 JPN BJ73 is 16361-38010, which is a 380mm 7-blade fan. This fan is super common and very available... but the problem is that it doesn't...

    Bad tire wear

I'm guilty of not monitoring my tires very well, I know... but now that windows-down season is here I am hearing a LOT of noise. Things are noisy over ~25-30mph, generally when driving straight or in left turns, and quiets during right turns. The tires are badly worn on the trailing edge of...

I need the small rectangular badge from the side of 70-series FRP top that says "FRP Top". Winter seems to have claimed one of mine.
