VSC trac, VSC off and trac light on

I had same issue but my code reader said it was the gas cap. I put a new OEM cap on and took steel wool to the steel gas filler that the cap screws into because it had super small pits where the gas cap rubber gasket makes contact with the steel filler. Cleared the warning lights and no problems...

    Warning lights just popped up

My code reader allowed me to erase the error code and so far with new OEM gas cap it’s all good. One other thing I did was I noticed the steel filler neck where the gas cap screws on felt like it was pitted perhaps from condensation so I stuffed a rag into the filler hole to avoid any debris...

    Idle at start up

Is it normal at a cold start up for the idle to be over a 1000rpm? As it warms up it goes down to around 700rpm Additionally when air conditioning compressor kicks in the idle jumps up a bit Any words of wisdom? Cheers Baja Charlie

    Warning lights just popped up

Update Finally got a Code Reader and the code it pulled up was Evaporative System ( very small leak) Sounds like the ole gas cap I have a brand new OEM cap but I know from experience with my old Rubicon that don’t mean a lot. I fought that battle for ten years on my Jeep and finally doubled...

    Warning lights just popped up

I’ve got a code reader and a new gas cap coming. We’ll update what I find. My two pesos worth The rig has been sitting a lot due to the lockdown here in Baja. So my two prime suspects are: Engine light - Gas Cap VSC lights and Loss of Traction - Slow leak in air bags Cheers Baja Charlie

California Title and Registration of Diesels

My two pesos worth Down here in Baja pretty much every American has their vehicles titled and registered in South Dakota. Their fees are a fraction of the cost compared to California and they are some of the nicest folks you’ll ever meet. There was a rumor that Cal-law-fornia got wind of us...

    Warning lights just popped up

Thanks for the tips Now to my dilemma I live 105 miles south of the border in Baja California. We are currently in lockdown in regards to non essential travel to the states and there are no Lexus dealerships in Ensenada. The local mechanics down here are hacks and few even know that cars don’t...

    Warning lights just popped up

Jumped into the GX470 “Tank” today and pulled out of the garage and the following warning lights came on VSC On VSC Off Skid control Engine These have never come on before but I’ve only had the vehicle for four months and today was the first time I drove it into Ensenada and it drove and ran...

    OMG lockdown ideas

I help the famous Baja Fools Pit crew for the Baja SCORE off road races by doing the time splits and pit times. We typically pit the race truck (Rob Mac) in some remote areas in Baja so I want my rig to be trail capable. I have built a few trail rated rigs and currently have a Baja built pre...

    OMG lockdown ideas

I’m old. I’ve followed this forum for years and I actively participated back when I had my 62 in 2003. I’ve got the 470 now and I love it so far I’ve done my research and the 470 is pretty darn capable. However, times have changed and now I live in Baja so my questions are this Without...

On board air compressor mounting location ideas

I've run on board air compressors on all my vehicles and I'm putting one on my recently purchased GX470. In the past I've installed Extreme Aire compressors and they are bulletproof. The one drawback is their size, they are big and you really need space. On my old 62 it was no problem mounting...

Removable drawers and/or other storage options

When I had my 62 I put a Tuffy Security drawer system from a TJ in the back for tools and storage. It wasn't an exact fit and a while back but what do remember it was all steel and a quality product. I looked them up and they don't have much for a GX but they have a few it things and I'm sure...

    No lift bigger tire ideas

Thanks, I got a heat gun and that plastic is going to get stretched. I’ve run both Goodyear’s and BFG’s, BFG’s ride better but they seem to cup easier. On my 62 I ran Goodyear MTR’s 305 x17R/15 mounted on Mickey Thompson Classic 1’s (yes they were the last of the forged aluminum rims they made)...

    No lift bigger tire ideas

Well I'm back here after I sold my 62 back in 2004 and I have a 2006 Lexus GX470. I live in Baja now and where I live it's pretty normal compared to living in the US. We have a large community of retired Americans and Canadians. What we have down here is a lot of potholes comparable to San...
