I have a squeak coming from my 80 that sounds exactly like something is rubbing as the wheel turns around. Sounds like somethign is on the rotor or the brake pads aren't releasing. The problem is that it isn't the brakes and it only makes the sound while in gear. I was coasting down a side...
I just stopped by a dealer to get an estimate for a power steering pump for my lx and they said that there are different versions of the ps pump, hydraulic or belt driven. They want me to cross refrence with lexus for the part number. I had thought that they would be the same. Are there...
I just started using the rechargeable NiMH batteries in my Garmin handheld and I'm not getting the life out of them I thought I would. With the same settings for backlight etc. they seem to drain faster than regular alkalines. They are new batteries and a new charger, should I be expecting...
Hi all
I'm currently in Chicago and there is an opportunity to move to the DC area for work. The GF and I had been thinking about TX, but this could be better. Something I had been looking forward to about TX is the outdoors activities, weather, and the generally central location to other...
I need to replace my cats since someone was kind enough to remove them over the weekend while I was downtown. I'm going to get a magnaflow instead of the OEM replacement and I found a Merlin shop that would install for about 500 once the parts come in. I can get the cat for a lot less online...
I have the v6 and it is sputtering on uphills, but not on the flat. Recently had the o2 sensors replaced to clear a CEL that was emission related. That cleared that code, but another pops up that says that the cats are not up to epa standards. At first I dismissed this, but I once had a GMC...
I recently moved here from Kansas City, Mo, so I'm going to have to retag everything for IL and to do that I have to get the emission testing done. Both my trucks have a CEL on, both for emissions related items. My wife was told by Naperville Toyota that they won't perform the test with a CEL...
I found the rear axle on the drivre's side of my wife's 4runner was leaking and I'm going to replace the inner seal. Researching the boards it seems most people just do the inner seal and avoid the extra work of changing out the sealed bearings. However some say that if oil is making it's way...
I have some rust spots coming through the paint on my 4runner and some chips. Also there is some on the cruiser I'd like to take care of. I know pretty much nothing about painting need to find out the steps to take to fix them.

Just saying hi, I'm still up here in Troy Mi. I'll be here another month or so until I go to Chicago. Troy is a quiet suburb about 20 minutes or so from Detroit. I haven't seen any need for the kevlar everyone said I should bring, whether here or in Detroit.
Thinking about going back...
My wife was walking our dogs in the neighborhood last night when she was charged by a PB. The dog got a hold of one of mine, but apparantly didn't break the skin or otherwise hurt it. My wife is fine, but was very shook up thinking it could have been her the dog attacked. She called 911, but...
Which one is easier to use and requires the least prep? Prep is a concern becasue I have an area in the wheel well at a weld that would be very difficult to get sanded thorughly. Where in town could I get either of these?
I'm going to be testing the VSVs today. One of the tests is to "apply battery positive voltage across the terminals" Is this just the car battery or do I need something with lower voltage?
On the newer 100's they specify that you only have to top off the tranny fluid and it can't be drained and refilled. In addition the new fluid isn't compatible with other fluids.
What is it about this fluid that it never needs to be changed?
Now that most of the years events have happened and people have lots of shots, do we want to do another calender for 07? Elizabeth and I would be happy to do it again if there's interest.
I keep getting this code on my 01 4Runner which means;
"P0446
When the vapor pressure rises to a specified point, the ECM opens the VSV for CCV. Pressure will increase
rapidly because of the air allowed into the system. No increase or an increase below specified rate of pressure

I was looking through the manual last night about doing this and it shows disconnecting the front axle, removing the steering knuckles and then using a press to remove and reinstall the bearings. Is all of that necessary just to do a repack? I was hoping to just take off the hub and then be...
