I am selling a FSM for a 1996 LC in mint condition, along with the manual I will include the front hub socket and the special rear hub removal tool(never used and very well constructed) . Asking $50 for all three items together. I live near Greenville SC and prefer local sale for cash( I do...
Window woes
I had a rear window (PS) that didn't function when I purchased my 96 LC. I finally got out the FS manual and followed the trouble shooting steps and was able to confirm the source of the problem. The switch was the problem, just take the switch from the other rear door and hook it...
I have done a search and found some posts regarding alternative "switches" to use in place of the real CDL switch. It was stated that the ECT and Hazard buttons could be used and were priced between 7 and 10 dollars.
I called the two local dealerships and got price quotes from $43.55 to...

How similar is the steering gear on the 4runner to 1996 Landcruiser, I have FSM for the LC. Will I need a pitman arm puller (should I get the large pitman puller or the small one?). I do have a Haynes manuel for the 4Runner but i'm not sure it goes into the rebuild - just removal and...
replys
Thanks guys for the replys. Yes I drained and refilled as part of the diff service.
I will probably drain and refill after 1000 miles. I plan on using dino - it will encourage me to change it more frequently. I still have to come up with a better delivery system for the diff. oil...
Over the course of two evenings and one full day I tackled the front birf service on my 1996 LC w/ 133,000 miles. This site and the Birf DVD enabled me to complete the job without any problems what so ever !!! I'm sure this was the first Birf service the truck has received, when I drained the...
I'm in the middle of doing my first Birf job and am getting close to some reassembly - I'm trying to decide whether to put anti sieze on everything or not. What do ya'll think.
Thanks,
Zach
Thanks
Thanks for the response - and I would like to add that the Birf DVD is excellent !! Anyone that is nervous about doing the birf service really needs to get a copy of it.
Thanks,
Zach
With the front rotors off- (during the birf repack) - is it necessary to seperate the hub and rotor IF you are reusing the wheel bearings ?? It looks like you can clean and regrease/repack without seperating the two.
Thanks,
Zach
When doing the Birf job are there any reasons that you can't disassemble both sides at the sames time. It seems to me that one could get all the mess over with at one time and have a nice clean work space for re-assembly.
Any thoughts ?
Zach
some good luck
Thanks for the offer on the spare parts, but luckily I finally cleaned the contacts well enough that the DS window switch is working perfectly. I will still have to replace the RR switch - but that won't be near as painful ($$$) as the master switch.
A word of encouragement...
Has anyone on here had to place their Master Switch on the drivers door that operates the power windows ? Mine won't operate the drivers window or the rear right side passenger windo. Using the FSM I was able to confirm that the window motors both still function well. The RR passenger door...
I would like to pick up some spare washers for the oil drain plug , what size do I need and whats the best material - aluminum, copper, plastic etc. ???.
Thanks
Zach
I was successful in breaking loose the alt. pivot bolt last night and got all my belts changed. I used an 18 inch breaker bar and a new 14mm craftsman socket, but I think the trick was I attacked the bolt while the engine was still hot. Once I got it loose I let everything sit and cool off and...
