Thanks! It's been a bit of work, I get why they sell for $2k. I am going to add some diagonal supports to the tire carrier, and either some gussets or trusses to the Jerry can basket and it will be ready for paint.
Actually I was leaning towards welding. I’m running an external rear fuel tank, and it has a skid plate on it, there’s not access to the inside of the frame for bolts and brackets. I figure I will need to occasionally tighten bolts if it’s bolted on and I don’t wanna have to drop my fuel tank...
Making some more progress on the rear bumper. I want to OEM tail lights to preserve the FJ40 character even though this is a resto-mod vs pure restoration. The light housings are deeper than the 2”x4” rectangular tube, so I’m either going to have to make a spacer on the outside surface or cut...
So I’m debating on whether to weld the bumper on to the frame, or to go with some type of bracket bolt on method. Any suggestions, comments, or lessons learned?
I’m supposed to be doing my wiring, but I got to the rear signals and running lights and I had none, and they going to go in bumper but I had no rear bumper, so now I’m fabricating the rear bumper! I’m really glad I upgraded my Welder a few months back.
On both diagrams it looks like the 'S' and 'B' wires go back to the + batt, your diagram shows the S going through a few fusible links before they combine. The diagram I modified came from the FJ62 FSM, here is the unmodified:
here they are combined right out of the alternator, this is a...
I have a 3FE transplant with OEM alternator and wiring my FJ40 with a generic harness and custom gauges. The harness is a 22 circuit Speedway motors Universal setup for 3 wire alternator, and the FJ62 alternator has 4 wires. This is how I am planning on wiring:
I would like to run it by...
Thanks @Engineer8000! That diagram is exactly what I needed. I see what you are referring to, both the motors internal diagrams are similar, except that the park circuit ground for the FJ40 is NC and for the FJ62 it is NO.
Additionally @pappy mentioned to me yesterday in a PM that he...
Here is my situation, I have '69 FJ40 with top mount wipers. I have retrofitted an FJ62 steering column and am trying to figure out how to properly wire the wiper control switch and module to my wiper motor.
Here is the WD for the FJ62 wiper system:
and here is the FJ40:
The wiper...
Has it always done that? Does your 4Runner have this feature, if so does it only light up when the engine is running? I am guessing the purpose is a diagnostic to know that you alternator is properly charging, so it doesn't seem like there would be a negative consequence until you have a bad...
Thats odd, it definitely should not be on when the alternator is not spinning. The relay might be stuck in the energized state.
Wired per what wiring diagram, FJ62 or 1969 FJ40?
One step forward two steps back. I had my wiring about 70% done, but could not physically tuck the FJ62 cowl harness neatly under the dash with the vintage air unit there. It was too long and bulky from all the "fancy" circuits the Fj62 has that I don't need, plus there was a fuze box and...
