I would install it total over the soft top making sure you front edge starts well back of the top to the windshield.
add a air dam on the front of the rack.
having it sit out over the windshield will give you all kind of windnoise.

It has been one year and the hammerite is still holding up well
No chips or peeling of the product. And so sign of rust popping

I used a air die grinder with scotchbrite pad on it first then where It needed it I used a sanding disc on the same tool. Then used the por 15 degreaser, then the por 15 metal etch preparer, then
sprayed por 15 grey rust prevent paint. the gauge metal is 16 gauge
spare tire stem
I have light issues too.
one question.
How do you get to the spare tire stem, without taking the tire down. I can't see the stem, cause it is mounted stem side up under the truck. What am I missing here. Surely you dont have to take the whole tire down to check the pressure.
por 15 on floorboards
on the floorboard I used 2 coats of por 15 grey rust proofing.
I am told the grey is heavyier and it seams to cover the pitting better. The stuff settles donw into better. Made a slick glossy surface.
Now next spring I will lightly sand and fill in the final pit...
This is the work that was done before I started on the the floorboards, put a new rear seal in and put in some metal on the rear. I have all the parts I need for this crusier, at least those I know it needs. All I have to acquire is a new front bumper. Probably a better condition steering wheel...

I am using por 15 silver. Spraying it on.
I have degreased it (marine clean), and etched it (metal ready)
and have applied 2 coats on some areas of the floorboards.
got to get more paint tomorrow to finish. the por 15 should
seal the floorboards until next summer when I will do a light...
working on floorboards
i have removed seats and such, gas tank, heater and have ground down all the rust in the floorboards, also welded a new rear seal and cut the rust out and welded in new metal in the lower back quarter panels.
