Real Time Help: 1989 62 Radiator Flush?

I think (I can double-check) I bought a Performance radiator (after reading up on them here) for (I think, can double-check on that too) $180 and put it in myself (first and last biggish project ever, and still very proud of it...). This was a year ago, no problems whatsoever since... Homemade...

    Engine drain cock has o-ring?

Does the engine drain cock need an o-ring? I didn't see any, but I don't want to discover that there was one that was washed away during the flush, after I start filling with coolant again. TIA

    cleaning coolant overflow tank...

Hey dgarber, how did you take out the overflow reservoir, on my 62 the bracket seems to be attached with welded nuts on the outside, so I figure I have to slide the tank up and out of the bracket somehow, but when I tried I had to force it quite a bit and nothing, so I didn't insist? Thanks.

Topping off Dextron II with Dextron III

OK, thanks, how do you peel the "I" and does it matter if it's the first, middle, or last one, it's turning out to be more complicated than I thought :) I've seen Dextron II on google products: http://www.google.com/products?q=dextron+ii I got III btw but I just didn't know what the PO had in...

Topping off Dextron II with Dextron III

Yes, thanks, but can you mix them together, if I have II right now and need to add a little III will they mix together well, the thread above says yes, but I was just double-checking...

Topping off Dextron II with Dextron III

Hi, I'm pulling my radiator and I'm not sure if I currently have Dextron II or III in the transmission. According to this thread: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/3FE/message/8375 I can mix II and III without problems, but I just wanted to ask this here as well. Has anyone mixed them...

    Getting ready to repair radiator

Thanks guys, D'Animal, yes I'm taking it to a rad shop and I'm flushing the system before taking the rad out, I didn't know they'll put a cock in for me... I'm definitely going with a green coolant, since that's what's in it now, don't want to mix with red, even after flush, the green has been...

    Getting ready to repair radiator

Hi all, I'll be taking my radiator out soon to have the lower seam soldered and have all sorts of questions about that: 1. How best to double-check if it's not leaking from the lower hose or the drain cock? Radiator shop guy told me, after looking for a second under the truck that it's the...

O2 sensors changed for free by dealers?

The 1988 Owner's Manual, on p.130 "Explanation of scheduled maintenance items" under "Oxygen sensor" states: "Replace the oxygen sensor when scheduled. Your Toyota dealer will make this replacement (parts and labor) at no cost to you." Do they still do that? And I'm the second owner, does...

Fluid Film on Exhaust Muffler and Paint

This guy in Canada uses Fluid Film in his yearly rust prevention ritual: http://www.risingsunimports.ca/news/2005_06_17.html The web site apparently imports Japanese Cruisers into Canada... In the very last paragraphs he mentions a "good wax job" as one of the last steps, so apparently he...

Fluid Film on Exhaust Muffler and Paint

Dirty Toad, great screen name btw, and I love that quote in your sig, did you get it from that Discover Magazine article, or did they get it from you :) Back on topic though, you need to check these: http://www.eurekafluidfilm.com/applications/automotive.html...

Fluid Film on Exhaust Muffler and Paint

Hi all, I'm spraying Fluid Film on the frame, wheel wells, etc. Should I spray the exhaust muffler, it has some rust underneath, but I don't know how Fluid Film will behave when heated? FF propaganda mentions to be careful not to spray the breaks, any other areas to be avoided? Also, when...

    Weird substance in Diagnostic Box

So not so weird after all Thanks much... One less out of the way... wait, now I'm thinking it wasn't covering all the pins, should I get more of that stuff and spread it real nice on'em?

    Weird substance in Diagnostic Box

My CEL (check engine light) started coming on during highway driving, goes away after I turn the engine off, then may or may not come on again after a while. I also think that starting the engine gets a bit harder after it gets warm . . . So I’ll be pulling the code(s) tomorrow (I...

“Dial tone” whine in front during deceleration

I’m trying to describe this noise better than in a previous post. I got a PM (thanks for that) suggesting that it's the fan clutch, which I now think it might not be, since I read up on the clutch and I think (and hope) mine is in good shape, plus the noises I saw describing the clutch seem to...

    Coolant drip

I took it to a radiator shop (thanks D'Animal), the guy looked under it and said the rad leaks at the bottom seam. Didn't do a pressure test... My temperature is normal at the moment, and it's just a drip, I plan to drive like that for a while, topping off with water, given that now I'm...

    Coolant drip

It's clean under the water pump Thanks much for the reply. I looked again at the pump, it's clean. The weep hole is on the bottom of the water pump itself right, I can't see the hole itself, is there a trick to see it better? But pump is clean and it's clean under the pump as well, the...

    Coolant drip

This was my very first “getting my hands dirty” with no one to hold my hand, really exciting... I’m chasing a coolant drip. Doesn’t drip on short runs when the engine remains cold. Engine does not overheat (for now?), but leak starts once engine is warm and, I think, it’s accompanied by a...

    do-it-yourself garage

Hello to everyone, I decided to dedicate my first post to something more far reaching than my current problem… I mean project… I am, for all practical purposes, I complete noob at all of this, and to make matters worse, the little knowledge that I have is not in English, i.e., I don’t know the...
