    About to put her up......

Update: TXED came up to Austin and left with his new rig! I know "The Darkside" is in good hands and will enjoy some new love and attention. I will be excited to see what new improvements and adventures she'll go on. After 17 years with a truck, it is certainly and weirdly difficult to part...

    About to put her up......

.....for sale that is. I haven't been active at all on Mud in a very long time and even less so in the local community. Family dynamics have changed and it's time for me to find my old girl a new home. For those that don't know my rig, here's a few threads...

    Rust....how should I fix this?

Yeah, problem is, I'm not comfortable with ANY of it.....I was willing to do bondo until I saw that it goes all the way through. I gotta find somebody to do some sheet metal replacement. I think I can save money and handle the finishing though.

    Rust....how should I fix this?

Pics: right after a wire wheel: after poking around with a small file....this is where I started to realize how deep and spread out it was: after hitting it with a grinder. it actually goes up higher by probably another inch I'm guessing: Close up:

    Rust....how should I fix this?

Well, took the grinder to it tonight. As was predicted the cancer was a lot more extensive in area and it indeed goes all the way through..... Looks like i'm looking at finding somebody to weld in new sheet metal......I don't know if I have the patience or time it would take to try to patch in...

    Body shop??

Think Mark M had mentioned that there was a body shop the local guys like. I dug into the "small" rust spot on my DS rear fender and it's through and through....which means no body filler to fix....which means I need somebody to weld in some new sheet metal in that spot. No clue how much...

flywheel to use with 5.3 vortec and downey adapter?

It's not just that they sell Downey's stuff, they pretty much bought the adapter part of that business, along with all the tooling and stuff...... Good luck with your phone call.....I've sent multiple communications to them through their web form and have yet to receive a reply. Glad that...

    Rust....how should I fix this?

MOBILE paint?? That sounds super cool....I've often dreamed of a full re-paint....be fun to start getting some quotes.....

    Rust....how should I fix this?

Thanks for all the advice guys......looks like I'm going to need to start grinding to see where I'm really at......I'm going to order some rattle-can matching paint from Paintscratch and then I'll start this project next week....got the whole week off, so it's a perfect time to do this and get...

    Rust....how should I fix this?

I was going to post this in paint and body, but I figured it would get more attention here.... This is the only non-surface-only bit of cancer I have on the rig.....But I know I need to do SOMETHING about this before it grows bigger or deeper....more so that it already has... This is...

    ROTW(M): The Darkside.....MrZero

Poser motor pics by demand.... Not the cleanest engine or bay......honestly I have no idea how to clean an engine or bay without breaking something..... And here's some pics of my new fuel lines and pump from a thread I have in the hardcore section:

    ROTW(M): The Darkside.....MrZero

Probably not..... the custom wiring harness, the ECU programming, the Downey adapter, the headers, the custom exhaust, and motor mounts, custom x-fer x-member, custom AC hoses, new air intake, new starter and 4 O2 sensors added to the motor and H55 probably exceeded labor costs. It's all the...

    ROTW(M): The Darkside.....MrZero

I was able to get my motor off Ebay for $1100 with the AC hoses and y-pipe. The upside was that the place I bought from was about 5 miles from RTCustoms, so I didn't have to pay freight. The engine is a '01 and had 65K on it. I've had 0 problems with the motor. The 5-speed I got from...

    ROTW(M): The Darkside.....MrZero

Oh, I haven't yet.....I'm just saying, if I could do it over, I'd now choose the auto. Mostly for driveability......this rig gets a lot of city and highway miles and the H55 neuters the V8 pretty badly in 1st and second.....loads of torque though.

    ROTW(M): The Darkside.....MrZero

Thanks! It does indeed....the only thing I would have done different is to have mated it to a 460le instead of the new H55......the cool thing is, that's something I can do down the road with the right funds....

    ROTW(M): The Darkside.....MrZero

......The emissions laws changed in my county. And my state inspection was already WAY overdue. I knew without the j-pipe, I'd never pass. So I decided to try and put a stainless pipe from SOR back in myself. This was by far the most irritating, frustrating, un-fun job I've ever taken on on...

    ROTW(M): The Darkside.....MrZero

.......I started hearing a nasty screeching from time to time, usually on startup. I had started to learn some more about the truck and had even started wrenching...barely.....but had cracked a few bolts here and there.....new muffler\tail pipe, PCV valve.....basic stuff. But I had no idea...

Wow. Where the hell to start? I was trying to remember how long it had been since I first drove my 10\'85 FJ60. I just couldn't remember.....I'm sure like a lot of you, it feels like FOREVER, especially considering the buckets of sweat, blood, grease and pain we pour into these rigs seemingly...

Adding 12v outlets...check my wiring diagram...

Thanks guys. This one was a lot of fun. Nothing fancy to plug in....just phone chargers, iPod, gps....you can see the stock socket is holding the LED flashlight I got from Superbright.......
