    HDJ80 smoking (white)

Is it true that if the turbo is leaking and dumping oil into the intake that this will lower the compression for all pistons. I'm going to get an adapter today for my compression testor(for the glow plug hole) As soon as I get my pickup running well, I will delve into the cruiser...

    HDJ80 smoking (white)

Still trying to figure the smoke from my 1HD-T. I'm burning a liter of oil every 500K. Lots of smoke. It doesn't look blue but must be. Its got to be the carbon seal in the turbo. Getting poor power and gas mileage is up and down. Is it easy to pull the turbo to get it to a rebuilt shop...

    HDJ80 smoking (white)

Thanks for the sugestions. The gas mileage has been up and down, making me realize that the compression is poor.

    HDJ80 smoking (white)

No, I have not done the bearings yet. I have the bearings and bolts but haven't had the time. I will pick up Diesel purge tomorrow and will run it through the injector pump. If that doesn't help I will check for water in the oil. Peter

    HDJ80 smoking (white)

Never thought of condensation. Might be part of the problem. Once warm the smoke decreases but is still there. It is very damp here on the coast this time of year. I have a product called Diesel Purge from Molly that I will pick up on monday. I have been told to run it directly through the...

    HDJ80 smoking (white)

Tony: I'm on the coast. Vancouver Island. -2°c to 10°. I read that it could be low pressure at the injectors. What do you think? I have an oil catcher between the valve cover breather and air intake. It never fills. The oil goes directly into the intake. Is this caused by the failure...

    HDJ80 smoking (white)

Thanks Tony. Your the second to mention that. I think I will explore that avenue. Is it easy to remove to take to a shop? I also have to replace the bearings on the crank shaft. I got the bearings from 4wheelauto. Just trying to find the time. Peter

    HDJ80 smoking (white)

My 1HD-T smoke (white) most of the time. Will decrease when warm but won't go away. It's a clean engine and was imported from Japan about a year ago. It has 170,000k on it (sat around for a long time). It also uses motor oil. There is oil in the intake after the the valve cover breather. Any...

Questions from a new hdj81 owner

Thanks Rosco I figured the timing belt thing out. There is tension on the belt and it will operate when running. The engine starts very good and idles great right away. Way better then my 3B. At 2°C the glow light is on for 2 sec before the start. I took the hose from the air filter to the...

Questions from a new hdj81 owner

I have heard that some engines have problems with oil consumption through the valve cover but was told that the 1hd-t was not one of them.

Questions from a new hdj81 owner

I'm going to tighten the belt today and see how it runs. I'm thinking that a loose belt would give me poor gas mileage and smoke. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Questions from a new hdj81 owner

I was a BJ60 owner and just bought a HDJ81. Drove the cruiser home 3000 km to Vancouver Island from Yellowknife. I burnt 4 L of oil (Synthetic). It smoked the most after starting out in the mornings and decreased after a half hour. The person I bought it off of added an oil collect can...

Bullock's is the best restaurant in town, it is all so owned by my brother inlaw and his wife Renata. The throttle position sensor failed again. I had rapped some electrical tape around the sensor to aply pressure to the contacts but the tape failed when it heated up. I fixed it again but...

Don't get me wrong, I loooove my 3B, the smell, the sound, the torque. The top speed of 120 km just doesn't cut it on a long haul over the rockies.(90km up hill) I look forward to installing a turbo. Peter

Well I got the idle down to something normal. There was no continuity between IDL and E2 on the Throttle Postion Sensor(TPS). I removed the throttle body and cleaned her up. I took apart the TPS and found that if I put pressure where the pins contacted the ceramic plate. I put it all back...

Sorry Guys tried to pay from paypal to be able to put some big pics on line. Paypal refused. I'll try again tomorrow. Back to my story with the FJ62. Sure enough she started right up. High on the idle and very noisy lifters. I was told when I bought her that the 3FE was in good working...

    Removing dirt in frame

The '88 FJ62 I just bought has the frame filled with fine dry(for now) dirt. Should a person try to remove most of it. When it gets wet it just promotes rust but if you remove it the O2 can get to it and cause rust. What is the best way to get all that dirt out of the frame through those small...

Well guys I bought the 1988 FJ62 yesterday and started working on it right away. I was lucky and got a toyota 1989 full Toyota maintenance manual for the FJ62 the day before. It helped me trouble shoot the fuel problem. After about three hours work I found a corroded wire at the connection pin...
