push rod adjustments - disc brakes

Yep, doesn't look stock to me either by Australian standards, I figured your (US delivered) 40s might be different to ours in this area...and by different I mean ass backwards. :hillbilly:

push rod adjustments - disc brakes

Normally, for stock landcruiser master and booster setups the little pushrod inside the booster that pushes the master cyl on pedal application is adjustable (two pieces, threaded with two 8mm hex heads for adjustment). It does not need to be filed down. Winding the rod in and out is easily...

push rod adjustments - disc brakes

Can I ask why you are adjusting pushrod to master clearance by adding shims rather than just adjusting the pushrod itself (you know it is adjustable right?)?

    Builds Aussie 1978 FJ40 Buildup

Escuse my ignorance, but can you please enlighten me as to how exactly the diesels "s*** over the petty motors"? I'm very interested to hear your views if you can find the time to point out the immense advantages a diesel or even turbo diesel has over a petrol motor apart from the obvious water...

    ID this piece please

As said it looks like a welch plug. What engine is it? 2F has a welch plug at the back of the cylinder head. Feel around the back of the head (closest to the firewall) and you'll probably find a hole where that plug was. The plugs are cheap as and most auto shops will have an assortment of...

    Tailgate

Thanks Ehsan but was thinking of a latch arrangement where I could just slam the tailgate shut. One other reason I chose to make the tailgate the way I did was to get rid of the annoying rattle from the original latches. Might have to raid the latching mechanism off the 60 series I have for...

    Here's my flywheel. Discuss.

Agree completely. I always machine when fitting a new clutch. I also replace the rear main seal (aka rear crankshaft seal).

    Tailgate

I used "Killrust" paint on the panels and on the inside of the plate. I also ran a bead of silastic/silicone around the edge of the mating surface to stop debris/moisture getting inbetween and promoting the rusting process. Its been on for a couple of years now and I cant see any sign of rust...

    Tailgate

Yeah the quarters are/where in pretty good shape as far as rust goes. I bent the right rear out of shape a bit while climbing out of a deep narrow creek bed. The pic was after I beat the panel back into shape and painted it. When I did the damage I decided that I wanted to put the plate on the...

    Tailgate

:grinpimp: Hey just because we cant pronounce it properly, doesnt mean we cant spell it. ;) Thanks for the kind words Ehsan. I'm a member of a few forums here in Aus but don't know why I've taken so long to join here. Been lurking for a couple of years. One thing I've never done on any...

    Tailgate

First post for me, I'm a long time reader but decided to join today and give some input for a change. I made a heavy duty tailgate for my 40 a while ago. Made it out of 2" box section and re-located 3 out of the 4 original hinges. I just used normal barrel bolts to latch the tailgate closed...
