Anyone have a solution for replacing this door limiter bushing?

Yellow arrow is pointing at the thing.

Where the heck do these go?

I made the mistake of straightening up the garage and found these cable and hose brackets. I’ve complete forgotten where they attach. Any clue? ‘78 2F. Thanks!

Anyone have opinions on SOR's front door latch regulator kit?

I'm going after yet another rattle in my driver's door and replacing some worn things. This kit is much cheaper alternative to OEM. Is it durable though?

Let's play "How loud is your truck?"

It would be interesting to baseline what mods improve and worsen road + wind noise. Care to measure the loudness of your truck at approx 60mph/100kmh and report back here? Tell us about your drivetrain and other factors that can have an effect on noise. You can download all sorts of decibel...

Can an EGR valve be rebuilt?

I bought a smoke machine to check for an exhaust leak, but while I was under the hood I also connected it to the brake booster hose. I noticed smoke coming from under the saucer-like top part of the EGR valve. This is bad, correct? It's not a big leak. The motor pulls about 19 Hg at idle. If I...

Can someone check my logic? Jet size and relationship to pinging ... (edited: now Advance Curve)

At freeway speeds, a lean condition contributes to pre-detonation, correct? I can't seem to eliminate some light pinging. It happens in two circumstances. Going up a hill under heavy load with WOT (4th gear only). And 4th gear 65mph+ when rolling on the throttle. Cruising seems fine, but a bit...

Electronic distributor vacuum advance adjustment question

Anyone know the correct setting is for this spring in the picture below? It looks like those two nuts can retard or advance the base timing. Where is the starting point? Does it matter? I'm trying to get more familiar with the effect of vacuum advance on different driving situations. This dizzy...

How does this 3-way vacuum connector connect? '78 emissions trivia.

As far as I can tell, it's supposed to connect the vacuum hoses between the air cleaner, VSV, and the advance/retard ports on the dizzy. The thing is, it's not a normal 3-way connector. The connector on the right (with the extra hole there) has a smaller inlet (outlet?) than the other two...

I need very basic motor rebuild advice

Hi. I've been chasing a small hesitation issue for a while ... and prior to that I was chasing a pinging issue under load, which was solved by more compatible timing and higher octane fuel. Forum folks theorized that the pinging was probably caused by carbon buildup on the pistons. That was...

What causes a surge when you let off the throttle?

New to me problem, but I was driving in some new conditions over the weekend. Doing 60 + up a long incline (many miles on a decently slopped grade... 3 or 4%) and my engine did something odd. Going up this pass at highway speeds required a lot of throttle ... a lot of throttle for around 40...

Proper width for a smog pump belt?

For a 2F. If it's too thin it may sit on the smog pump pulley correctly, but it'll ride the bottom of the groove in the crank pulley. This creates a bit of extra belt noise. Thx in advance.

Need some help troubleshooting spark knock

My engine runs smooth. Timing is set to 7 degrees BTDC; I'm certain of this. The engine is stock, included the distributor. It's one of those weird 78 era dizzy's that has vacuum advance and I think also retard. It has two vacuum ports. Currently running 87 octane of California gold, which...

Source for an air pump pulley?

Mine is tweaked. The air pump is fine, just had it rebuilt. Now that the pump is solid its obvious that the pulley is bent in a couple of different directions.

Do I need a new harmonic balancer?

Replaced the timing cover seal on my 2F. It seems that I may have not positioned the cover correctly when I reseated the pulley. I left the cover loose but perhaps I took too much time to put the pulley back on ... perhaps the FIPG firmed up and kept the cover a little off center. After running...

It stalled and I'm a bit confused

Drove the truck about 100 miles today. Ran fine on the way to work this morning (50 miles). Ran fine almost all the way home ... up to about 45 miles. So close. In general, it idles and accelerates fine. Vacuum is around 17 - 18 at idle. Starts right up. I'm pretty happy with it. But tonight...

    Timing cover seal

Probably a dumb question... When reinstalling the pulley, what type of lubricant do you use for the seal?

B-Z Rebuilders ... smog pump rebuild + other work too

Yesterday, my smog pump decided to give up. After a search, it looks like people are sending their pumps to B-Z to have them do the rebuild work. It turns out they're only about 30 mins from my place, so I dropped by today to drop off the pump. They're nice. They had several rebuild orders in...

Transfer case "squeak" - rebuild advice

Spent the weekend chasing rattles and squeaks. Since I've gotten my 40 back on the road I've developed a new noise. I thought I had an intermittently squeaking fan belt, but I think the noise is coming from my transfer case, or possibly the rear diff. It only squeaks when rolling (squeak squeak...

Not your father's sheepskin seat covers

Those were better. They don't make them like they used to, but these are fine. Not sure this is the right forum, but adding this info on Mud so others can find it in the future. Sheepskin cover info and options for FJ40s seem to be pretty scarce. Because of that I was a little worried about the...

    12v Bluetooth audio system?

Happy holidays! Has anyone installed a decent bluetooth receiver with a built-in amp that can drive a couple of speakers? The off-road world has these systems, which can bolt into a UTV. Something like this: headless stereo Anyway, a radio is a mostly unnecessary accessory these days since...
