You'll be needed the 'stralian bunch down at Land Cruiser Owners On Line - the Yahoo group.
There's lots of good info on this site, but most of it is on US-spec cruisers. Our 100 series come only in the 4.7 liter V-8 version (except for a couple...
1999 differentials
Yep, the 1998 and 1999 front diffs are (just slightly) more fragile than the 2000+, but that just means you should be a bit careful reversing with a load and a locked center diff. That generally means don't recover another truck while reversing. Turn around, first.
The...
How do you get the back speakers out?
My '99 truck has (long, long ago) blown the back left speakers. How do I get into the side panel to unplug and replace?
thanks
LT
The passenger side cable broke on my '99 two years ago. The cable had corroded and just my weight (155 lbs) on the gate did the foul deed. The driver side cable was clean and bright, so I just replaced the pass side and was good to go.

Here's the rundown (long-post, but it's a good story):
The "Toll Road" or "Motor Road" goes from Black Mountain to Mount Mitchell-- only about 11.5 miles in a straight line, but 20 miles by the trail along the ridgelines. The route was built in 1915 or so to carry a railroad used to harvest...
I took my fearless '99 up to Mount Mitchell last weekend -- the hard way: up the 1920s "motor road" from Montreat, which has been pretty-much hikers only since the Blue Ridge Parkway opened in 1939.
No problems, and no worries around front diffs. I like my 99 because it's not so new that I...
Our 99 LTD gets almost 19 around the mountain, and 22 on the interstate.
I really like the option to go rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive or 4 wheel (locked), which was new in the 1999 limited model. Plus, the Runner has the auto-dimming mirrors, compass in the rear-view, and that nifty rear...
I live 1000 feet up the side of a mountain, and 150 feet down a driveway with a 35% slope. The "glazing" on my rotors is enough to warrent turning at every pad change. Just about every mechanic up here, dealership or independent, recommends turning rotors on every car and truck in the mountains...
Michelin Cross Terrains
I like the Mickey Cross Terrains, great on-road ride and feel, and pretty good for the dirt fire trails and construction site mud around Western NC. But they are very very soft rubber. I got 14k and 12 months out of my first set, and the 65k warrenty gave me a new...
Here in the mountains, pretty much all of the garages highly recommend turning the rotors when you replace pads -- because of the extra and heavier braking, the rotors build up a haze or polish on the deposited brake material that prevents a good break-in of the new pads.

DASD (do a search, darn it).
The flares were put on 100-series Cruisers headed for dealers in the US Southwest at the Houston port of entry and only installed on the 98, 99 and maybe 2000 model years, AFAIR (as far as I remember from the earlier threads).
I don't recall anybody...
Thanks, Longhorn. I kind of figured that was one of those Lexus things that wouldn't work on the Toy, but your confirmation saves me from wondering about it anymore.
When the crazy glue stops working, I'll just have to break the piggy bank and buy a new part from C-Dan, unless I find a Cruiser...
Aw, gee. Just jerk those two $300+ circuit boards out of your two newest trucks, attempt to cross wire them and see what happens, John!
Where's your sense of adventure?
-grin-

C-Dan told me the driver's side window control panel is unique to the Cruiser and costs more than $300 (he offers a nice discount to Mud board members).
Mine is hanging together with crazy glue. I doubt you'll find another unit with the right connections, but it would be interesting if John...
The older trucks without VSC are much harder or almost impossible to get back into line once the rear slides out beside you. That's probably the primary advantage of the newer 100s, in my opinion.
One thing I learned from owning an Audi and attending their drivers' schools -- go experience...
I've got nothing against China or Chinese manufacturing-- sorry if that comment distracted people.
The point is that I have a 25 gallon fuel tank with fresh gasoline -- and I have a five-gallon plastic gasoline container in the corner of the garage. If there's an easy way to siphon, I'd...
Has anybody tried to siphon gas from their 100 series? I have a gas generator and the usual gas-powered lawn tools, and would prefer to keep my spare gasoline in a 6000-pound Japanese-built container better equipped for the job than a red plastic bucket made in China.
I dropped a four-foot...
Sorry -- I wasn't clear. I think we're saying the same thing: The effect of higher octane -- to burn slightly more slowly than regular -- is changed by altitude. So to prevent pinging and eventual engine damage living at altitude becomes more important, and more difficult.
