I'm using a spade connector in place of the 20 amp EFI fuse - one of these:
In case this spade connector / jumper ever stopped working, I rigged a wire from the positive battery terminal that I can plug into the EFI fuse location, to provide 12V directly to the fuse, but I haven't had to use...
Update: I'm the original poster here, and I've had my 2001 LC jumpered with a spade connector since 2013. It hasn't given me any further issues. It currently has 225,000 miles.
I rolled on Rustoleum Flat Black paint - I've done it twice now (in 18 years). The rough texture holds paint well. You could probably find a satin black and roll it - it would be hard, for me at least, to get an even finish with a rattle can.
I towed my 4100 lb 4Runner on my carhauler (total towed weight = 5500 lbs) and it was fine. This was at elevations ranging from 4500-11000 feet in Colorado. It was a little slow, but even over Monarch Pass I didn't drop below 50 mph. I think that's an excessive load to tow with an LC all the...
We've had our 2001 for about 8 years - we bought it with 120,000 miles. It now has 180,000 miles. Maintenance records from the previous owner, along with my records, show only 1 issue outside of scheduled maintenance.
I had/have an immobilizer problem with mine over the last couple years...
My passenger side front door midrange speaker is blown. I know the factory stuff is crummy, and if I cared about great sound quality I'd replace these with something better, but right now it isn't a priority.
If someone has a functional 6.75" midrange JBL speaker from their 100 series front...
I put a spade connector in the fuse box, in place of the EFI fuse. The truck has started every time since.
My symptoms were:
1. Truck would start (most of the time) after sitting overnight.
2. If truck was driven a short distance and then stopped for an hour or so, it wouldn't...
Jumper the EFI fuse under hood - don't just replace it. I jumpered mine a couple months ago after a bout of problems with it failing to start, and it's been starting fine ever since.
I replaced all the fuses first, including the EFI fuse, and it still flaked out. The jumper is the only...
Just a follow up for anyone else having this problem:
I have been driving the 100 normally for a week or so now, with the jumper in place of the 20 Amp Fuse in the underhood fuse box.
It's been starting just fine - right now I'm going to just leave the jumper in and drive it, but I'm going...
I got home from work, drove truck to gas station, filled up (with it idling), and drove home. Shut it down for an hour, restarted fine. Let it sit another hour, started fine. This is with a jumper in place of the EFI fuse under the hood.
I'm going to leave the jumper in and continue this...
I replaced all the blade type fuses in the underhood box last night. This morning I drove the Cruiser, let it sit for an hour, and it wouldn't start after sitting. I noticed the immobilizer light continuing to flash with the key on, and I also noticed the VSC lights on when I turned the key to...
I swapped the radio fuse in and it didn't work. However, when I swapped in the spare 30 amp fuse on top of the box, it started. After I got it home and parked in the garage, it wouldn't start again. I pulled out the spare 30 amp fuse, put a jumper in, and its working now.
I'm going to...
My 2001 Landcruiser has had an immobilizer issue for the past year now. 5 times in the last year, the flashing car thing won't go off (by the clock) when I insert the key. Today it just stranded my wife, and no amount of re-inserting the key would get it to start. I'd say 98% of the time it...
I just replaced the head gasket in my 85 4Runner with a new factory Toyota part. It ran fine for a couple hours, but after failing emissions today, I decided to do some minor tuning, including replacing the spark plugs. I buggered up the threads on #4 (closest to firewall) and ended up having...
I had to build a flat pitman arm, though I think you can buy those now. Basically you have to have the tie rod running as close under the frame rails as possible, and the only way I could do that is to make a modified pitman arm. A stock IFS arm has too much drop to it with short springs.
I...
