92 FJ80 Power Steering pump suppliers?

It's been a while since I've been on here. (No need, the truck runs fine...) But I'm finally at a point where I think I need to replace my power steering pump. The bearing is starting to wear. And while I'm in there, the steering gear box leaks a lot, the hoses are pretty bad, I'm just going to...

    3FE Owners Check-In

1991 FJ80. Owned for 2 years. 180k. Flaking clear coat, dent in the front corner. Interior is in great shape. I love the old toyota fabric seats, they seem indestructible. When I bought it, the seller lied to me, and it was NOT smogged. (I'm in CA) Redid the entire air rail, intake/exhaust...

    FJ80 differential mystery???

I've had a number of cruisers over the years, and recently bought a 91 FJ80 and have been lurking around the local pick n pull junk yards looking for little bits and pieces. I've found maybe 3 or 4 91-97 cruisers at the yards, and every single time, someone beats me to it and pulls both front...

For Sale  1994 FZJ80 with lockers and blown head gasket

All stock. The clear coat is flaking off. No rust, CA car. New tires. All leather, including 3rd row. The front seats are splitting at the seams. All pretty much standard... I bought it at 100k, the head gasket blew at 200k. Registered Non-OP. With factory locking differentials. The front diff...

    embarrassing problem - factory lockers

I've got a 94 with factory lockers on it. Driving around town the other day I suddenly heard this crazy "flump flump flump" noise. I pull over, look around, don't see anything... Then I notice: the wiring harness for the front diff locker is wrapped around the front drive shaft. It's been...

    stranded by unknown problem

it's not the air intake tube or air filter. I cleaned the battery terminals, it not that. The fuses all look good. And I just changed the fuel filter, and still no good. Now I'm stumped. I know engines with fuel injection, the problems are often about air (rather than fuel, like with a carb). So...

    stranded by unknown problem

all excellent suggestions. when I get out of work today I'll start checking all this out. it just seems so strange that it would just die like that. I've gotten stranded twice now, in the last 2 months, with my "awesome new" cruiser. with my older fj60, the 65 volvo, the 68 IH, I got stranded...

    stranded by unknown problem

As I was driving to the beach today, I pulled onto the main road there and the motor just cut out on me, and I couldn't get it started again. (This is a 94 fzj80, 120k). It seems like it wants to start, and almost turns over, but then putters out and will never catch. It seems like it has spark...

    Pesky Heater Hose question

Driving on the highway today, suddenly I smelled coolant, then I noticed the temp gauge shooting up (s### that smell is ME), and then coolant mist coming into the cabin... I pulled over and using my magic phone found a Toyota dealer within walking distance. ... tow truck, estimates, etc. later...

    Battery- idle- ECU reset

I left my lights on the other day. After recharging the battery, the truck is running totally differently. The idle is way off: previously on startup it might rev to 1700 then settle at 600- which is good. Now it revs to 1000 and settles at about 300 and barely runs... I suspect it has...

    Leather seat problems

I finally bought an fzj80! It has the leather interior, and it's got some stiffness issues. Another one I looked at and didn't buy had it much worse. I can't find anything with the search about this, and I assume this is a common problem. What do you do when your leather goes all stiff and horrible?

    thinking of getting an 80

I think I'm deciding against buying the one I looked at. There are in fact, plenty of 80's available for reasonable prices and in reasonable shape. The one at the consignment place was a little beat (but it does have lockers...) I really like my FJ60, but it needs some work that I just...

    thinking of getting an 80

I've had an FJ60 for a while, and I'm thinking of making the jump from the 82 FJ60 to a 93 FJ80. I went and looked at one today at a consignment lot, and got there at closing time, and was able to start the vehicle but not drive it. I don't know anything about these engines so I have a...

CA Smog Test for my 60

I just did the smog check B-S in Oakland Ca, and it was a really awful experience. So I want to rant a little: I looked on yelp and the top two places they listed were horrible. the first place charged me Double what the going rate is. the going rate is about $60, any more and they're screwing...

    Getting ready for smog check

it's coming up on time for a smog check for my 82 FJ60. I remember seeing some excellent suggestions/threads on here a while back, and I can't seem to find them by searching. The first question is, does anyone have a suggestion for a smog check place in the San Francisco, bay area, preferably...

    cold start backfire

I have an 82 fj60, all stock. I just went through the intake/exhaust gasket replacement. Now my exhaust leak(s) seem to be (mostly) gone, but I've got a new problem now. When the engine is dead cold, when I rev over 2000, let off and shift up, it backfires through the tailpipe. If I keep the...

    "tick tick tick"

I would say it's almost definately the front brakes. My truck was making the same noise. It has something to do with the disks being somewhat thin or the pads being thin, and when the caliper pistons return they're farther back in, and the back of the pad clicks or rattles against the caliper...

    Removing the Intake/Exhuast Manifold

I just went through all this myself and the first thing I can say is that you have to take absolutely everything off. There are no shortcuts, EVERYTHING has to come off. The next thing you'll notice is quite a few access problems. There will be a moderate amount of swearing.
