    OEM Tire Carrier

I have had to reinforce my stock carrier twice over the years, and it is now needing to be fully replaced by something sturdier. I have had the truck for 17 years, though, so I guess carrying a 33" tire for 5 years was no problem - it was that 6th year that did it in the first time:doh:

safest process to cut/drill into a gas tank?

I welded closed the fuel sender opening on my used, auxiliary tank. I'd bought it from a fellow who used a hole saw to cut the sending unit opening, in what turned out to be the wrong place, as the sending unit couldn't function properly due to contact with the internal baffles. It...

8274 brake problem, pb know apparently

I've rebuilt two 8274 winches since 1998, and have used the modern parts (wave washers) from Warn, with no brake issues on either winch. Hope this helps.

Aux. fuel tank install question- vent line?

I think that any one of the three vent lines that go to the plastic chamber from the tank will work fine for venting..

    sm420 fluid

Sorry for late reply I noticed no difference in the performance of the transmission between the two methods/amounts of gear lube. Which was what I was hoping for. How often does the easy way out really work as well as the 'proper' way?

    for those that need reminding...

Sorry.. but all these bondo stories got me all nostalgic and I have to tell my own. I had bought a freshly repainted '74 Cruiser in 1989 from a co-worker/friend. He absolutely swore the only bondo was in a little spot on the right rear quarter panel. Three years later, on my first...

    carpet 40 series

Carpet I used to use the indoor/outdoor carpeting from Home Depot, cost me Maybe $15 to do the entire interior. Was easily removed for cleaning. I liked how it would absorb a lot of dust, and hold it, until I 'cleaned' the interior on a windy day with the compressed air. This won't look as...

    sm420 fluid

I have done it a couple of different ways. First few changes, I used the fill plug on the side and pumped it in. Hard to tell how much it held because the awkward access caused me to have much spillage. Last time I followed somebody's advice, pulled the shifter, and dumped in a whole...

How many run drive plates (not hubs)

Drive plates I'd like a set to carry as trail spares, assuming they aren't too expensive. Yet I have never seen them on any of the FJ40's I've looked at. Are they at all common, and I haven't been observant, or are these another one of those rare-made of unobtainium parts that Landpimp has?

    Poll: Orion or Toybox or...

T case choices I have one of those rare Marlin gear sets in my TC, something like 3.64:1, behind an SM420. So I have the 105:1 low range gearing, handles most everything slow I want to do. I wish I had some intermediate low-range gearing, in the 2.2 to 2.7: range, for sand running. I have...

    30 dollar paint job

Imho Rattle-can paint rules for a trail rig. Easy enough to touch up, or repaint a section. I used a paint that was available in liquid as well as spray cans, so I have a quart I can use as 'touch up' paint, for chips and such. Some day I may own a vehicle I won't trash off-pavement, and...
