On my 71 it has a homemade roll bar with a wider section between the upright and the support (area where seat goes) so the wider jump seat you have in the picture works. The only mod I had to make to get in there was to cut off the arm rest, I did not feel it was really needed.
I thought I would have to switch the drive shafts also.
What about the differntial gears? Did they come with lockers back in 75? Are they really needed?
I also heard that I would have to lenghten the drive shaft for the PTO wench.
Sorry for so many questions, I kinda go the rebuild bug...
Again thanks for the insight. I will never know as much as you guys with this stuff.
I plan for strictly off road and maybe a run to the hardware store on the weekend. I don't plan on anything too crazy, mud, swaps, hills, no rock crawling. It will not be a daily driver.
I hate the...
No offense taken, I appreciate the help.
1971 FJ40 block stamp says F 274973
1975 FJ40 not available now to look at, but it definitely has a different shape motor, assuming it is a 2F.
The question on the heads stemmed out of curiosity from a response received, mentioning swapping head...
I have a 71 40 with a 1F motor and 3sp that runs just OK. I also have a 75 40 with a 2F motor and 4sp. The 75 is only good for a few parts, so my question is:
Is a 75 2F motor and trans worth rebuilding to put into the 71?
I have a PTO wench, is this going to be a problem.
I checked the FAQ...
Pin Head, Thank you for the info!
I am not a great mechanic but trying to learn. So what I think I am hearing is a PTO is a PTO, regardless if it came off a 3 sp or 4 sp. What I need to check is whether or not the 4sp transfer case has the PTO gear inside. Does a 3 sp always come with a PTO...
Thank you the quick responses. How would I find out if this PTO I am about to buy will be compatable? Is it something where I can pull the cover plate off the 71 and 75 (both 40s) and count teeth?
Will a PTO for a 3 speed fit on a 4 speed and vise versa? Is there any special modifications required?
I have a F1/3sp (40 71) now and I am going to install a F2/4sp (40 75) I also have, in the future. I need to know if they are compatable?
I am very new at this and checked the...
