I hate to do this.. But it's more than I can do right now and I need the cash. It needs an engine rebuilt and some minor stuff. I have a new wiring harness for it as well. This was a daily driver for a year and a half before the engine issues. I have a ton of pictures and information and history...
I can't spend more than a few hundred dollars. Even all that I don't have (yet), but I need a new engine. I am in North Florida..
If anyone has a lead on one please PM me or e-mail me!
Thank You....
Ok. So, I got around to pulling the oil pan. At first I saw nothing out of the ordinary. Until I saw this:
Is that the bearing cap? It is BLACK. With some frays of metal on the top end of the picture.
So, I checked the bottom of the oil pan and saw this:
.....
I tried to unbolt the...
So, for starters, I have a really bad knock in the bottom end of my engine.
Not only that, but I towed it home, and started it up to try to troubleshoot it. It wouldn't start. I fiddled around with the electric stuff because my starter button died. I wired in a $5 Autozone key switch in and...
Question.. Since the last time I took the hard top off, and now when I tried to put it back on. There is nowhere to bolt the top hinge at in the hard top.
Any idea why? And what would be the "fix" for something like this? I can't weld, so Cutting it up and welding a plate and tapping it...
So, This engine has a bottom end knock, suspecting a rod, or bearing at least, I wanted to check the oil pump. I took the valve cover off, started it, and 15 seconds later it died. (by the way, I see no oil oozing into the valve area so I'm assuming oil pump is bad?)
Anyway, I tried and tried...
Ok, so I took a video of the engine knocking. I didn't have a stethescope but I took a stick and shoved it up against different parts and put my ear to it. It sounds to be coming from the bottom end, in the rear of the engine.
Thinking of dropping the oil pan and taking a look around. Can I...
A friend gave me a stock ignition and steering column and wheel. When I turn the key it is smooth and doesn't "stop" at each setting (off, acc, on, start). It also looks like on the left side of the column there is an empty hole. Does something go here I am missing?
If anyone has pics of...
Hello. I recently had another 2F put into my '77 FJ40. Ever since the engine swap I've had issues with the radio, headlights, and turn signals. I got the drivers side signals to work properly, although sometimes the front signals intermittently change orientation (white light and side light...
Hello.
I recently realized my rear drivers side brake light is not working. I replaced the 1157 bulb an I still cannot get the light to work.
The passenger side brake light operates fine.
Any clues on where I should start looking for the problem?
I'm not electric wizard so please...
Does anyone have a vacuum diagram for a '77 40? I have a FJ60 distributor with an extra vacuum port on it for higher altitude (which I don't use in Florida)
Anyway.. I have some leaks or something and I want to make sure everything is hooked up where it's supposed to be.
Even a cap and a set of lower pads is very expensive and above my budget. So I wanted to see what people have done to either refurbish a top pad and maybe somesort of lower pad or cover? I searched the forum but only found a thread on gauges
This might be easy for ya'll, but I had some aftermarket turn signals on my cruiser and got some stock ones. The signals worked fine prior to this, but now, the two wires that hook up to the signal are not working in any configuration.
If I hook both wires up (in either order), all lights on...
Ok so i just installed some stock front turn signals and got rid of the aftermarket round ones. (77 40).
Anyway, while wiring, which one is the turn signal and which one is the "lights" switch attached to.
One way is too white light and side light on, with lower front amber lamp as the...
I drive a 1977 FJ40 daily. The engine has about 90k miles on it now.
Well it's been running funny. It is sluggish, the RPMs jump up and down randomly, I couldn't ever put the choke in all the way even when warmed up totally. Wasn't much power...
Anyway, I took it to a shop today to have them...
I read about bleeding them and stuff.. How do I know when to do it? Or do I ever really need to?
I was told to readjust the rear drum brakes, drive in reverse and slam on the brakes. Is that.... right?
She's a daily driver.
P.S. disc brakes in the front on my '77
I live in Florida.
It's hot.
I sweat.
Classmates probably think I stink.
Can't hear the cell phone anyway.
What do I need?
-Freezer bags to protect wallet, phone, etc. when it rains (about 2pm-3pm every day in Florida, if not all day)
Rain soaked>sweat soaked...
Before I start off, I have no idea what some of these parts even are. So if my prices are off, please tell me. I am only putting prices down since it is forum rules. Most of this stuff I don't know what to ask for.
All this stuff is for sale.. Whatever the going rate is...
