Thanks for all the suggestions. A few other notes, it is really random. I had been on 4 or 5 day trips without any problems. Then three hours and about 50 miles into a trip on Wednesday it started acting up. If I happen to be off the throttle going down a decline and the RPM falls into that 2000...
Doesn't do it very often which makes it tough to troubleshoot, but when it does it's like the fuel supply is shut off. I'm not ruling out ignition, but I think it's fuel related. It starts and idles fine, but sometimes accelerating from about 1000 to about 2000 RPM (no tach so that's a guess)...
I've done quite a bit of searching, and from what I gather a t-case out of an 84 FJ60 could be run in a 40 but would require driveshaft and parking brake mods. I couldn't find any info about the gears themselves, specifically the hispeed output gear and the transfer sleeve are the two parts I'm...
Thanks for the reply. Manufacture date is April of '78. I disconnected the wire from the harness and hooked up a jumper wire from a constant 12V source and had the same results.
Similar problem
I'm experiencing a very similar problem on my '78 de-smogged 2F. It starts and idles great, but as I give it gas, it starts to surge. My idle solenoid only has one wire coming from it that is hot,(looks like this one...
Thanks spotcruiser. I was unaware of the length difference, but that explains the unused washer and bolt it the Warn lockouts that I bought. I guess it's back to gettin' greasy.
It's not as personal as it sounds, but it is just as frustrating. While doing a knuckle rebuild, one of my birf's had quite a bit of pitting on the race and balls so I decided to replace it. Unfortunately I couldn't afford the Longs so I went with the Marfield UM-05 Birfield. Problem is, it's...
Thanks Grant,
A guy here on MUD is selling a complete axle from his 72. I realize a lot of the parts like birf's and lockouts won't be interchangeable, but what about inner axles, 3rd member etc.
Thanks again, Jason.
I have a 78 FJ40 with a front axle housing that is bent beyond repair. I checked the FAQ's and found one hit stating that the housing itself is the same between a 72 and a 76 although "may" require grinding for the birf's to fit. Wouldn't the same housing also work under a 78 if this is the...
I'm looking to replace my front housing that is bent. I just need an empty housing that is straight and in usable condition. I'm located in Southern Oregon and am willing to drive a few hours for it, or pay reasonable shipping charges.
Thanks, Jason:beer:
I just got done reading your ROTW thread Cam, and I have a similar story. My old man bought a Cruiser brand new in '69 that I grew up with. When I asked him if he was willing to part with it, he said it was going to be his retirement project.
I drove my new Toy home the other day. It needs some engine work and some of the B.S. accesories need to be attended to, but I think it's going to be a good foundation for my new lifelong project.
I don't plan on doing any hardcore wheeling with it, just cruising around the old logging...
